Does anyone know what this is?

Someone left this on a table in work (coffee shop). It belonged to a boy aged about 7ish. I've kept hold of it in case they come back for it, but what the hell is it?
It doesn't make any noise, and the middle bits spin around like a rubix (spelling?) cube. Have asked loads of people - no one knows!

Looks like a bead tower puzzle, not sure if that's the proper name, lol. It's a similar kinda thing to a Rubik's cube.

There should be a space where one of the coloured dots is missing and you can slide the dots in that column up to fill the space. Combination of twisting rows and sliding columns lets you move the dots around - the goal is to get them all in single coloured columns like it is in your photos.
