Is the tv adaptation suitable for a 9 year old?

I'm watching with my 10 and 7 yr old.

My 8 and 11yr old are watching it, I'd say not for very young children, it's quite scary in places. The book was aimed at the YA market I think, described as a coming of age book.

I have a very sharp, curious 8, nearly 9yo and tried him with ep1 a few nights ago. He was interested and pounded me with sensible questions. My 6yo dipped in and out which I expected.

Watching with my 8 and 10 year old and reading the book ahead with them. Without the reading it would be too much for the 10 year old who's a bit sensitive. 8 year old is hard as nails and fine. It's not too bad though so far I think book is worse.
