Anyone with nest thermostat?

I got the nest installed a few weeks ago and have been playing around with the home/away assist. To begin with I had both my phone and the thermostat set to decide if someone is home but it wasn’t triggering so best suggested switching to just my phone for a few weeks to let it settle which worked great but if I was out and someone was home no heating

So I thought I’d switch it back to both yesterday and again it isn’t triggering that I am out. Does it take a while to trigger that no one is home if it’s set to both? For example If I go out to do the school run and am gone 30 mins is that not long enough?

I've never managed to get the home/away thing working. It used to just randomly turn on when nobody was in. There probably is a way to fix it but I just try and remember to turn it on before I leave work so its warm when we get in.

I may just leave it set as my phone being the deciding factor as that works brilliantly.

The home and away thing rarely works properly for us either.

Sometimes it registers that I've been at work all day, sometimes it doesn't.

So we just have it timed to be off during the day during the week, and I turn it on when I start getting cold if I'm at home. Which sort of defeats the object, but there you go. It's handy to be able to control it remotely, I suppose...

We ended up turning off all the smart features on ours, it never seemed to work properly and the heating would come on in the small hours waking me up. We just use it as a programmable thermostat, it is handy to be able to turn it up remotely before leaving work.
