Dental Pain

I have a temperary filling and going to the dentist tomorrow. I've never been to this dentist before. Do you think they will do a normal filling for me or it would be a check up and then filling another day? Receptionist wouldn't say and said up to the dentist.

Also my last dentist said my right back molars all need to come out as decayed on the inside. Never had any pain until that appointment. Since then I have severe pain but had trouble with the surgery cancelling my appointments 7 times. (NHS). Have now saved to go to a private dentist but still not enough for a filling and all three teeth extracted. But the pain is bad. Not sure what to do as I've read awful things online and scared myself. I struggled to get child care for tomorrow and no guarentee to get it again for further appointments :s

A good dentist would definitely do the filling right away as long as it isn't infected. I don't know about the other teeth but is there any chance of putting it on a credit card and paying it off as fast as you can?

Wherecanwegetoff123 · 11/11/2019 22:02

I can put some on a credit card but I doubt they will take them out tomorrow. Filling I can pay for and perhaps two teeth removal. Oh it's not fair. Why is it so expensive. I never had pain until I went to the other dentist. Obviously they were bad but they werent effecting me and now I've been in pain for months because they kept cancelling my appointment. Managed to get an emergency appointment on a Sunday and got the temp filling.

You might have some other options for the back molars such as a root canal so talk to the dentist and tell him it's causing a lot of pain.

I did think about it but the root canal costs £400 for a molar. But an extraction is £80. So I don't have much choice. I don't have time to save for 3 of them at 400 each! Nor get a credit card for that much.

Just have to have them out :( I'm so upset. I'm not even 30 yet. My last dentist said it is probably from pregnancies and also my pill! 4 kids in aged 6 and under. And progesterone only pill in between.

Can you find an NHS dentist because then there is at least a cap on the amount you pay.

Or if one of your children is still under 12 months you should be entitled to free dental treatment at an NHS dentist

It was the NHS dentist that kept cancelling my appointment. 7 times! Then I was late by 5 minutes due to traffic so they said I didn't turn up and took me off the books! It's the only NHS one in our town. I've been super unlucky

So i went... No filling done. She wants an x-ray to see my roots. She doesn't want to extract. Yay! But need root canals on at least 4 teeth! At about £300 a pop which I can't afford unless I do one every few months Confused and some normal fillings which I can do soon

How do people afford teeth! I look after mine. Careful with that I eat. She said I was a rare case as the tops of my teeth are fine but the cavities are inside! Trust me to be bloody difficult!

Oh sorry to hear that but I do think it would be worth saving your teeth if you can. Maybe they would do a payment plan? Or take out another interest free credit card and pay off as soon as you can rather than saving in advance. I am sure it would be better to do the teeth asap to prevent the decay getting any worse.

Wherecanwegetoff123 · 12/11/2019 17:16

Thank you. Yes I'm going to see if I can get another card just for this. Or pay off the other 2 then reuse them. It's going to be so expensive. If I scrimp and save and prioritize this over another debt which I'm actually ahead of paying then I might get it all done in about 4 months.
