Baby taken away by social services whilst in A&E

Hi

I'm new to Mumsnet but am in desperate need of help/advice or better still has anyone out there been in the same situation as me.

I dropped my 10 month old boy at nursery one morning at 8am. He was his normal self - happy chappy with no injuries. I got a call from the nursery at 4.30pm from the manager saying despite no accident happening at nursery throughout the day he had developed a lump on the side of his head but not to worry as he was in no pain or discomfort but best I get it checked out.

we picked him up and took him to a&e immediately where to our horror he was diagnosed with a fractured skull. because the injury was unexplained social services and police were called and the decision was made not to let us take our baby boy home. We are now under investigation and cannot see him unless supervised. it looks like it will go to court months down the line.

We are innocent of any neglect or wrong doing and it seems to us the nursery are obviously to blame. Understandably we are devastated and heartbroken and just want our boy home

Terrible suggestion! Please don't do that.

Why and how exacly is a Private investigator to find out what went on in a nursery?

Op. I am a lawyer in a firm doing privately funded work and care work. It is very important that you get a good lawyer who does legal aid. Given the injury you should get a lawyer who is a member of the Law Society's Children Panel. Not all care lawyers are members but the ones who are, are the most experienced. You need someone doing mainly care work and ideally someone who has experience dealing with alleged non accidental injury cases. You also need them to get experienced Counsel (a barrister) on board ASAP and I would suggest having a conference with the barrister to discuss a plan of action ASAP. Does your nursery have CCTV? If so you need this urgently reviewed. There are good legal aid care lawyers who will fight your case and go the extra mile; then there are those who will just go through the motions. You need a good one. Ring around, get recommendations. Depending on location I may be able to recommend someone, feel free to Pm me. You and your partner are likely to each need a separate lawyer. I can’t imagine how upset you must me at the moment but I really hope you get this resolved ASAP.

Why and how exacly is a Private investigator to find out what went on in a nursery? ...By investigating them... Privately? Confused

Please excuse my well intended suggestion if it is a terrible one. I'd be interested to know why it's terrible as my thought process is a PI would be able to dig up information/evidence quicker and more thorough than cash and time strapped police. No?

Absolutely heartbreaking and sickening. Poor baby.
I have no advice OP. Sounds like you’re cooperating with SS. Whoever is responsible - negligent or otherwise, I hope their arses are handed to them on a burning hot plate.
How is your baby?

Nope. He or she is going the have in oder to get any usefull evidence speak to the staff and do you not think they'd be suspicious at all?

Course they will be they'll know that something adverse went on and won't be telling. Even if he was to ask the other parents don't you think it wouod be odd if you were asked anyhting?

If it were someone asking me re my GS at his nursery they'd get some very pertinet question and responses from me I'd be suspecting them of wrong motives likely a Peado!.

Its not like tailing someone to see who he/she meets with in a case of adultry for instance.

If its thought that the police need to be involved they have more investivagative powers then what any private eye has!

Any update, OP? What a terrible situation Sad

Vampyress · 16/11/2019 12:22

The OP isn't going to come back, after the MN brigade came in to accuse her or her babies father of abuse and then moving on to accuse her of scaring people regarding social workers and nurseries, I can't say I blame her...

TryingToBeBold · 16/11/2019 13:14

@vampyress

Totally agree which is a shame. I was really rooting for her after knowing someone who went through a similar situation.

Slaymill · 16/11/2019 16:01

Sad situation @TryingToBeBold @vampyress hopefully one day the OP will return and give us good news.

MsBananaHammock · 26/11/2019 07:50

Any news OP? How’s your little one doing?

TurningLeaves · 29/11/2019 23:27

I've been thinking of you. How are you getting on?
