Too late for Christmas cake?

Never made one before but is it too late to start making a Christmas cake? If not, does anyone know any tried and tested recipes? Looking for something I need to “feed” booze.

No, but i always make Jane Ashers last minute xmas cake.

I made one on Sunday, and am making my friend's on Wednesday, then my dad's on the Sunday coming.

Plenty of time for them to mature (although later than I'd usually make one -haven't done so for a few years!)

I'm using Delia's recipe someone on here recommended :)

It has to be Delia, and still plenty of time

My son made one 2 weeks ago. From a BBC recipe and he is feeding it every 2 weeks.

NeverGotMyPuppy · 11/11/2019 19:57

Nope I made mine today. Mary Berrys - love it.

BoogleMcGroogle · 11/11/2019 19:59

No way! It'll still be delicious, especially if it's Nigella's Smile

Nousernameforme · 11/11/2019 19:59

Im making Mary berry's later this week if everything turns up on the shop. It takes 3 days to soak the fruit so it wont be baked until friday at least.

MsRinky · 11/11/2019 20:11

It's not even stir-up Sunday until the 24th, there is plenty of time.

Abibranning · 11/11/2019 20:20

My dried fruit is currently soaking in Brandy ready to mix it together this week. Certainly not too late.

Pierrettelasanguinaire · 11/11/2019 20:34

I bloody hope not. Have made one today and three more to do this week. Should have happened last week but I was struck down in my prime by a savage little germ.

House smells very Christmassy

managedmis · 11/11/2019 20:40

It's worth doing one just for the smell

AnnaMagnani · 11/11/2019 20:43

Lidl does brandy soaked mixed dried fruit, it is fab.

Userengage · 12/11/2019 22:11

Wow, thanks everyone. I’m really excited now. Printed off Delia’s recipe but she breaks down all the fruit required rather than just dried fruit. I guess I can just add it all together.
Does anyone decorate with marzipan and icing?

Can I add more brandy to Lidl’s pre-soaked fruit?

If you are using Lidl's fruit then just stick to the recipe rather than adding more brandy as you will have a very, very alcoholic cake, especially if you make it now and feed the cake.

There is a lot of brandy in the Lidl fruit and you will end up with a cake that is more brandy than cake.

Of course this might be what you were wanting Wink

Abibranning · 13/11/2019 05:50

Yes we decorate with marzipan and Icing. Turn it upside down to get a smooth top you can't cut it across due to the fruit.

Userengage · 16/11/2019 07:54

In that case I’ll go with I soaked fruit and do it myself, part of the fun.

Make two and keep one for next year.
