Hairs falling out

I know it's normal, but it's starting to distress me (I know it's vanity, but my hair has always been something I love about myself.)

I'm 4 months postpartum and my hair is falling out around the front, especially beside my parting. I have the same both sides, but with a side parting only one side is visible.

I spoke to my hairdresser and she told me to look at suppliments, problem is every single one I've looked at cannot be taken while breastfeeding.

Does anyone know anything I can take while still breastfeeding, or am I going to risk vanity reigning and I stop breastfeeding 2 months earlier than I planned?

I've attached a picture to show how bad it's getting, please understand this is really causing me to stress.

I've never been pregnant so I'm not sure if that can have an effect, but would it be worth speaking to your GP re your thyroid function? I have an underactive thyroid (on meds now so not as noticeable) and I was losing handfuls of hair every time I washed or brushed it before I was diagnosed. A wee blood test to check for this and other deficiencies might be worth doing.

It's quite normal to have hair loss (generally around the hairline) after having a baby, your hormones are all up in the air. When pregnant it throw out of sync the hair growth cycle leaving more follicles in the growth stage, then boom they finish that cycle and drop out ready for a new hair. Chat to your hairdressers how to disguise it, maybe a shorter style with longer layers and a change of parting

Thank you both for your advice, I'll have a chat with my GP.
Unfortunately my hair is already cut very short in a pixie cut already (long fringe which hides the other side though) so not much disguising can be done :(

Ahh I really feel for you. I'm going through this at the moment but not due to giving birth. Mine was/is down to vitamin deficiency - mainly vit D.
The good news is it's temporary but as I am finding, takes an absolute age to bloody grow back.
Head scarfs and bands are your friend.
Speak to your GP - my sister had a lot of hair loss after giving birth and the GP advised a prenatal multi vitamin. Not as strong as what would be in say Skin, hair and nail pills but a start.
And also to check your bloods in case there's something severely lacking.
Hugs OP, it's shit!

Have a look at this

springydaff · 11/11/2019 18:41

this too

I lost loads of hair after my second DC, it improved after about 6 months I think. I took kelp supplements, I used to refer to Kellymom.com for advice on anything breastfeeding.

springydaff · 11/11/2019 18:44

Oops, sorry, the second article says not for breastfeeding women ☹️

Florisene is BRILLIANT for hair loss. I discovered it on MN when a trichologist said it was the only supplement they knew if that actually worked.

The label just says to consult your doctor. It's high in iron, which might not be safe while you're breastfeeding (kids can fatally overdose on iron) but I'm not sure how much transfers into your milk. I'd ask my GP if I could take this.

Around 4 months after I stopped breast feeding, my hair fell out in clumps. Yours will grow back with a vengeance in a few months. I had considerable re-growth by the time I went back to work when dd was 1 year old.

sheshootssheimplores · 11/11/2019 19:11

Bless you. It’s honestly really normal. It will grow back!

GrumpyHoonMain · 11/11/2019 19:14

Pregnacare Max or Pregnacare Breastfeeding do help with hair loss. Everyone I know who has taken one or the other pp has had far reduced hair loss compared to those who didn’t. Supplement this by eating lots of iron and vitamin d rich food.

WhatsWrongWithHun · 11/11/2019 19:14

Yeah my hair started falling out in clumps around the 4 month mark too every time. It did grow back though.

Sicario · 11/11/2019 19:16

Mine fell out in a big way so I cut it shorter for a while until it started growing back. I had no idea about hair loss after pregnancy. Or what it can do to your teeth!

Froggledoggleoggle · 11/11/2019 20:59

Thank you all so much!! I'll have a look into the pregnacare and have a read of the info you've all shared.
I was horrified when I washed my hair this morning as it was coming out as I put the conditioner in. I already have thin hair as it is :(
