Currently, I WFH, have a partner and step-son, and have a hobby. My hobby is that I am a member of an orchestra. We rehearse twice a week, and have have concerts and other performances over the weekend.
I have done this for the past 5 years, but I am now finding the commitment too much. I enjoy rehearsals and some performances, but unfortunately it's all or nothing, as the whole orchestra needs to be there. So recently, I have been thinking about leaving this hobby, or at least taking a break from it. There are some weekday nights that are rehearsal nights that I really don't want to go, and some weekends where I just want to chill, or go out and do something else, but I can't, because if I do, I let people down.
Thing is, I know not all hobbies are like that, so I was wondering what do you do with your spare time?
I struggle with anxiety and depression, and I know that leaving the orchestra is a big step for me, and could well result in me rarely leaving the house. As I mentioned, I WFM so don't even get out for that. I do have a gym membership and work out a few times a week, so there is that.
What other hobbies could I do?
I just feel like I want something where it doesn't matter if I don't turn up on occasion, and where "I don't feel like it today" is an acceptable excuse.
The orchestra is like having a second (albeit unpaid!) job, and it's just too much, however enjoyable it might be.
I need to leave, but I'm scared about what I'll do with my spare time, as having nothing to do can make my anxiety worse.
Anyone any ideas? Or does everyone really just sit and watch TV every weekday evening and weekend?
