Homemade gift for 60th birthday present

It's my mum's 60th birthday soon. We are currently completely broke though (combination of moving house, new car and another baby on the way) and have no money for a bigger "typical" 60th birthday present.

My mum in no way expects any gift and will tell me off if I spend too much as she knows we need to save right now. However, I'd really like to get her something and thought she'd love a little handmade present from my 2 year old daughter. I am completely stumped for ideas though. Anyone got any winning ideas?

I still have the handprint pictures of my children at about the seams age.

Charity shop picture frame, they all have them and they are cheap, Smallish- 15cms square or similar

Coloured paper and then hand print with a nice thick paint. Write her name and age neatly on the page as well in a matching felt tip.

less than £2

Or a larger frame with hand and feet. You could also add a photograph in a larger frame

I love the handprint and footprint things but we've done them on plates and mugs in the past. For Christmas she's got nursery photos and a calendar with her grandchildren on coming.

I really like the "nana" lettering idea. Might have a go at that one tomorrow!

I've had several "big birthday" parties recently and was told no presents, so I made a scroll for them.

There's a site called onthisday.com, and it gives details of events, famous birthdays, natural disasters, historical events, music hits on the day etc. There's a search option for the day and year you need.

I copied and pasted things that's happened on their birthday and on their birthday date in other years, fiddled about with fonts etc, printed it on nice paper from a stationary shop, rolled it up, tie with a ribbon, job done. It's been really appreciated by everyone, shows you have put effort in and apart from the time involved costs pence.

Your mum will love the fact that you've taken the time to make something just for her.

Ps I am born the same day as Rasputin; every day's a school day!
