Breast lump. Feeling petrified.

I've managed to keep calm for the past couple of weeks but I've got an appointment at the breast clinic tomorrow and I'm starting to think the worst. It's a small pea sized lump towards the bottom of my right breast. Apart from that I feel really well. I keep worrying about the dc and dh and how they'd cope if I got illSad

Is someone going with you tomorrow?

MarshaBradyo · 10/11/2019 20:16

Good luck I had this recently and it is scary. Fingers crossed all is ok.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 10/11/2019 20:17

I had this at the beginning of September.

It was a cyst. A completely harmless cyst.
It is so scary and it's only natural to imagine the worst but please try to relax a bit.
Almost certainly this will all be over in 24 hours.

Thanks it's just so comforting to read your replies. My mum is coming with me so at least she'll hopefully be able to keep me calm.

There are a dozen stories on MN every month about breast lump investigations. I actually can't remember the last time anyone updated their thread with bad news. Many many months ago, anyway.

BellatrixLestat · 10/11/2019 20:29

I understand it must be terrifying but just remember the statistics. The majority of breast lumps do turn out to be benign.

My mum has had 6 or 7 scares, all benign cysts.

Good luck tomorrow Thanks

I had this a few years ago on the top of my breast, they scanned it in breast clinic and within seconds could tell it was just a fatty lump.
Good luck tomorrow. The worrying leading up to it is the worst isn't it? Fingers crossed that it's nothing. Thanks

How did you get on? Flowers

BearSoFair · 12/11/2019 14:56

Hope you got on ok OP. I found a lump in 2014, about the size of an old pound coin, it really did seem to suddenly appear out of nowhere! Got referred and checked out and it was just fatty tissue, nothing sinister.

I have one similar OP, it was a fibroadenoma - however you spell it. Really common. I know it's super scary but they're really common.

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 12/11/2019 16:54

Aaah OP, I was in the same position a few weeks back, found a large lump (well DH found it actually Blush) and had to go and have it checked out, had an examination, a mammogram and then an ultrasound.

It turned out to be a cyst and they drained it there and then while I watched on the ultrasound screen, it was fascinating to just watch it vanish! They also showed me where I had lots of other cysts including a really big one behind my nipple that I couldn’t even feel.

They told me I have fibrocystic breast disease, just prone to lots of cysts.

I’m sure you’ll be fine Flowers
