Hand foot and mouth- does this look normal?

Took DS to the doctors early last week for a persistent cough. Dr said no infection but noticed a cut on his finger. Said it looked clean and was healing fine.

Then came out with hand foot and mouth. Doctor wanted to see him to confirm which he did.

Now where the cut was there is this. I really dont want to drag him back to the doctor if it is just a blister from the hand foot and mouth but does it look like the cut is infected?!

Mine didn't have anything like that with HF&M. I'd get it looked at I think.

It's the hand foot and mouth blistering- nothing to worry about and means it will be on its way to clearing up soon enough. Hope your little one is ok because hand foot and mouth can be quite nasty.

yep it looks textbook HFM to me. You can put a warm flannel on it for 5 mins to try and draw out the pus, if its bothering him. Otherwise keep clean and leave alone and it will sort itself (or he will bite it or knock it!)

Brilliant, thanks everyone. I will leave it for a while and see what happens. He has had it quite badly. I'm paranoid I'm going to get it as I keep bloody forgetting and using my mouth to hold his dummies!

I'm afraid HF&M was quite horrific for us. The babies didn't have it too bad but I lost all the skin off my hands and feet. Envy

NeverGotMyPuppy · 10/11/2019 19:26

Oh god. Dr was very confident I wouldn't get it as 'it's very rare in adukts' (but then he also told me that I should consume any alcohol whilst breastfeeding so go figure).

Oh god I'm scared now!!+

What about alcohol?

NeverGotMyPuppy · 10/11/2019 19:35

Sorry - typo- I should NOT consume alcohol

We've just had hand foot and mouth. Grim. About a week before he had a scuffed knee. It was just about healed, not infected etc. And the HFM made it go like this! Couldn't find anything on the internet. Doctor said it was a keloid scar. (It isn't) It wasn't hot or infected. Anyway it went along with the HFM and is now completely flat normal healing scuff. Weird virus.

Noloudnoises · 10/11/2019 19:50

Oh and I basically had my baby slobbering down my throat 24/7 and I didn't get it so be positive!

NeverGotMyPuppy · 10/11/2019 19:51

How bizarre!!

And don't forget their finger nails who may fall out as well after a few weeks.

Elbeagle · 10/11/2019 19:52

Looks like a hand, foot and mouth blister to me.
My youngest (10 months) had it a couple of weeks ago. Despite him giving us all ‘kisses’ (which involve him licking our faces) none of the rest of us got it, even the 5 and 4 year olds.

Submariner · 11/11/2019 10:23

Oh god yes I had the little fingernails falling off too. That was secretly quite satisfying. (Sporner!)

NeverGotMyPuppy · 11/11/2019 10:32

Thanks all.
He is still quite irritable today - he had had it since Thursday. DH had organised a day but for our wedding anniversary tomorrow - would be the first day date we have had since DS was born.

I'm really hoping he improves in the.next 24 hours Sad
