A modern cinema icon sinks to a Warbutons advert - is this really the same actor who played Jake La Motta in Raging Bull and young Vito Corleone in the Godfather 2 ? What have I just seen? Was it a bad dream ?

I thought the Fockers was bad enough but Robert de Niro if you are that broke I’m sure we could have a whip round

Nice easy bit of money for him. No shame in working.

Thefemalekeithrichards · 09/11/2019 21:00

It’s just me then.....I can’t cope with an actor that I admired so much doing a trivial crumpet ad ( in ‘goodfellas’ - (not the pizza) style of course for added originality ) 😥

I've had a rethink since my first reply. I agree with you now. It is a bit sad. Like the pulp fiction fellow doing the insurance adverts. Or Owen Wilson doing settee adverts.

SueDoeName · 09/11/2019 21:03

Not just you ....both me and ex dh said same as watching open mouthed.....he cannot need the money surely!!!?

Sleepysquirrelin · 09/11/2019 21:05

Thought he was a good 'look a like' the first few times I saw this. There must be so much money in adverts for him to do this.

Thefemalekeithrichards · 09/11/2019 21:12

He attended the prestigious Method Actors Studio - he played ‘Johnny Boy’ in Scorsese’s Mean Streets in his first ever role - he is one of the few exceptional actors of our time.....I’m just not coping at all - looks like he de-mothballed his ‘Jimmy the Gent’ goodfellas camel overcoat too ...😢

I read an interview with him about this and it was quite funny, he was asked by Warburtons and wasn't sure so spoke to Sly Stallone who'd done one previously. Then said to himself "what, do I think I'm too good to be in an advert like this?" so went ahead with it. I like his attitude.

WalkAwaySugarbear · 09/11/2019 21:18

interview linky

Thefemalekeithrichards · 09/11/2019 21:21

And Travis Bickle...

He is too good though I like his humility

Hasn't he been divorced a few times? Maybe he needs a bit of $$$ to help with alimony or whatnot. Unrelated but I'm going to see The Irishman next week and can't wait.

EskewedBeef · 09/11/2019 21:25

He's not above baked goods. Nobody is.

tobee · 09/11/2019 21:26

I'd rather watch that than Dirty Grandpa. ConfusedConfusedConfusedConfused

DarkDarkNight · 09/11/2019 21:42

I used to be really bothered by this, but I’m not anymore.

I thought how can somebody go from The Deer Hunter to crappy comedies taken just for the pay check . But I’ve changed my opinion, it doesn’t take away from his body of work. He still gave those performances and they will always stand. He doesn’t owe it to anybody to just take on work seemed worthy of his legacy.

DarkDarkNight · 09/11/2019 21:43

Thefemalekeithrichards · 09/11/2019 21:47

@tobee

FFS Yes so true 😂😂😂😂 i lasted 6 minutes and switched it off 😂😂😂

@Eastie77
the divorce from Patricia Arquette is apparently the reason why Nicolas Cage takes literally any role offered to him. Remember if Nic Cage can still get work YOU can do anything 😂😂😂

@DarkDarkNight

I am beginning to see the funny side about the bagels now and forgot about the Deer Hunter - what a masterpiece
Like said upthread he truly is one of the best / probably the best actor of our generation

Pacino did Sky adverts a few years ago. Kevin Bacon still does the EE ones (ok so he’s not up there with Pacino and Deniro but he was alright in his day). I find it sad.

Thefemalekeithrichards · 09/11/2019 21:57

@Whattodoabout
I always thought Kevin Bacon was a bit hammy

OP posts:
Thefemalekeithrichards · 09/11/2019 21:58

Actually he is really good in that ‘City On A Hill’ on sky atm

I haven't seen Nicolas Cage in a film since 'Face Off' about 20 years ago!

Whattodoabout · 09/11/2019 22:53

@Eastie77 he did Lord Of War 15 years ago (wow) and that was probably the last decent film he starred in. Don’t think he’s been in anything for the past six years, probably not a bad thing.

Eastie77 · 10/11/2019 07:45

Yes I think it's a good thing. He is a dreadful actor. I love the fact that his online bio reads that he is a "member of the Coppola family...the non-acting side"Grin
