Dec 1st Xmas box

I know it’s not a thing, but surely an December the 1st Xmas box would be a better idea than a Christmas Eve box ?

Xmas pjs, Xmas jumper, Xmas book, Xmas films. You use All this stuff in the run yo yo Christmas not after. If you do an Xmas eve box you would only get 2 days use out of it.

Well I think I’m going to start a December 1st box for the kids this year instead.

I've known a few families do Christmas book boxes, where they have a nice box of Christmas themed books that come out on the 1st Dec and they buy one or two new ones each year to add to the box.

I find the idea of Christmas Eve boxes or even 1st December boxes bizarre. They are going to get so much stuff at Xmas - it just seems like overkill.

I can, however, see the point of giving an Xmas jumper or pjs at the beginning of December as you'd get more wear out of them. I just wouldn't be making a box or a tradition out of it.

December 1st is Advent. Not Christmas. Christmas starts on December 25th and not before.

I always wonder with threads like this why people come on them just to tell others that they are ridiculous. Massive shock people have different traditions at christmas. My christmas box doesnt have anything new in it other than a pair of winter pjs and some xmas crafts which is usually xmas cards ,which are made for grandparents which we would do anyway. It's just a way of marking the Christmas period.
Like I said we don't do stockings and my children do not get lots of presents. I doubt they are gonna be harmed by a box with films, books and Pjs in it. When we pack up the decorations the bedding and books etc go back into the loft with the tree.

Why only 2? 25th us the first of the twelve days of Christmas so you would get 12.

Not that I've ever done it or can see myself doing it.

LER83 · 09/11/2019 22:42

I do both. The house gets decorated on 1st dec, so they get advent calendars, new christmas pj's and a new christmas top/dress/socks etc, then I get out all the christmas books/dvds/cds/activities for them, same ones every year. Then christmas eve box has hot chocolate, matching Christmas pj's, night before christmas book, santas key, plate for santas milk/carrot/mince pie, and some chocolates. Most stuff is re-used each year. Kids love it. I've been doing it for about the last 6 years.

I’ve started doing both a Dec 1st box AND a Xmas eve box, but they’re simply a way of packaging up and making an event out of things we’d have/buy anyway.

Dec 1 - Christmas jumpers and advent calendars.

Dec 24 - new PJs (wintery but non-Christmasy - don’t see the point) and some kind of activity (they’re still young so festive sticker book or similar) and a homemade hot choc spoon.

Ditto advent calendars for adults, full of perfume, beer etc.

Can't people see it's just another con by the retail industry to get us to buy loads more crap that we don't need?

They've all jumped on the "Christmas Box" bandwagon to make you buy more stuff.

And no, I've never had Christmas pyjamas as they didn't exist when I was a child and I certainly wouldn't want them as an adult. Same with jumpers.
