Would you get fabric sofas with 2 cats?

We REALLY need new sofas. We've got leather currently and cats leave them alone but I'd much prefer fabric for various reasons - will the cats attack them? Can I do anything to reduce scratching? (They have scratch posts and boards generally which they use but they are a bit too interested in the bottom step of carpet....)

We've had our 2 cats, since they were tiny kittens, for 5 years now and we've always had fabric sofas - they've never scratched them at all.

We have a spare room where their cat trees, food, water & litter is kept, along with their various toys and scratching posts/mats so they've never been bothered by any of the sofas (we've moved twice in those 5 years too! So even the house changes haven't bothered them)

I did! Velvet to boot (not crushed velvet, just velvet) and petrol blue.

One corner of the back of the 3-seater is buggered beyond belief and We now have the added joy of vacuuming all 3 items of said furniture on the daily as the little bastards like to move along the sofas, armchair and footstool as the sun (or moon, rain, stars, Capricorn rising in Leo etc) dictates.

I'm getting orange crates next. Or no more cats.

Our cat scratched our leather ones a lot and it really showed. We got some new grey fabric ones earlier this year and she will still go to scratch the bottom/legs but it’s not as noticeable and also we put throws over them which has helped loads (not entirely as the kids keep taking them off to use for dens Hmm Grin)

My cat didnt scratch the fabric sofa but probably because she had a fluffy fleece and her own cushion.

The other thing is that fabric covers can be replaced. And washed.

I have 3 adult cats and my fabric sofas are fine. I'd actually be more worried about leather!
