Off to Amsterdam soon. Just booked a weekend in Seville for January. Got an absolute bargain flight.
Where are you all off to next?

And I still can’t decide which was the better option ..10 minutes of sheer terror or an hour and a half of pure hell

MinnieMountain · 10/11/2019 14:57

I'm on my way from getting the train to and from Venice and spending the day in Venice (it was all about the journey.)

Our next trip is 10 days with PILs in Spain for Christmas.

DH is taking DS skiing in February half term.

We're trying to avoid flying but have yet to work out how to get to Spain in a reasonable time without it.

We have beach holidays in Norfolk and Pembrokeshire planned for next May and August.

StCharlotte · 10/11/2019 15:04

Just back from a week in Wales with friends, next up is southern Spain for Christmas, then the Netherlands in May with some girlfriends and island hopping in Greece in June/July with DH. Will probably go somewhere at Easter. We offset our carbon footprint by having no children Grin

I’m going to Sweden for two nights at the end of January to meet my boyfriends parents. So looking forward to going and also not looking forward to going!

Nothing else booked yet, I need to decide where to take my son over summer.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 10/11/2019 15:14

Aside from the climate change debate and the cost, both of which are considerable, I don’t know how people are able to take so much holiday time each year.

I’m used to the scenario of one week’s holiday a year ( if you’re lucky). I haven’t been on a plane for 15 years or out of this country for11. If we could go abroad, it would be by sea or train.

Episcomama · 10/11/2019 15:21

These next few months are unusual for me: Bozeman, Montana for the weekend after Thanksgiving (surprise birthday trip for DH); NYC in mid-December (just me and one of my sons); Florida for Christmas (all five of us); Phoenix, Arizona for a long weekend in February (me and the kids) and glamping in Zion National Park in April.

After seeing a couple of friends lose their husbands very prematurely, my values in life have shifted a bit. I want to travel and "do" things with my family while we are healthy enough to do so. Life is short.

orangeteal · 10/11/2019 15:52

@Foxyloxy1plus1 you only get one week of annual leave?

Travelfan1 · 10/11/2019 16:20

@ElloBrian Thanks. I’ll check those companies out for Iceland. Also love train travel and have travelled through Italy and France many times by train
Enjoy all your holidays

Snap OP. Just back from Rome and booked Seville for New Year.
Tenerife in Feb. Halkidiki in summer.
Neither of my parents made it to 70. Holidays are a priority.

Travelfan1 · 10/11/2019 16:29

@ Foxyloxy I haven’t been on a plane for 15 years or out of this country for 11.

I would find this seriously depressing. Can’t think of anything worse then never leaving your own country. Sad
Don’t intend to stop travelling in the slightest. Looking forward to much more if it in fact!

Travelfan1 · 10/11/2019 16:34

Completely agree with you cptartapp i’ intend to travel as much as possible while I’m healthy.
Enjoy Seville😀

Foxyloxy people who reply to threads like this tend to have the time and money for more than one week's holiday.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 10/11/2019 17:10

Depends where you live maybe. I live near the sea, like my house and don’t want to go anywhere less comfortable than where I live. And I can’t afford it.

I’ve had lovely holidays in the past. Now it’s not gonna happen. Good job we’re all different.

Travelfan1 · 10/11/2019 17:14

If you can’t afford it that’s completely different Foxy

Aside from the climate change debate and the cost, both of which are considerable, I don’t know how people are able to take so much holiday time each year.

I have five weeks' annual leave (four days of which is over Christmas, meaning at least a 10 day stretch for only four days' leave) plus bank hols which I think is fairly standard. We usually do a fortnight in the summer plus lots of smaller trips over weekends and bank holidays. All my leave is used for going away. I rarely just have days off. Having said that, I saved three days this year but then changed jobs so lost it, although I did get paid for it.

As for affording it, no children.

I've recently lost a sibling so, like a PP, priorities have shifted and travelling is my passion.

MyCatTibby · 10/11/2019 17:16

New York in two weeks time and then Bali booked for next September. @HeronLanyon Lakshadweep Islands are on my wish list too!!

StCharlotte · 10/11/2019 17:18

Travelfan1 I went to Iceland with an Icelandair citybeak package which was very good value. I went with a friend - wish I had gone alone Grin

Travelfan1 · 10/11/2019 17:22

As well as my annual leave and bank hols, I have every weekend off(don’t work Fridays or Mondays) so we could be off every weekend, (Thursday night to Monday) if we wanted to

I feel like I'm travelling more this year than ever before! Came back from Florida 6 weeks ago, went to Devon in October, going to Germany in December and South Africa in January. However, one trip was to scatter ashes and another one is being paid for by my parents.

BeThere · 10/11/2019 17:31

I have an 18 month old and am pregnant again (haven't been away in 3 years), so I'm really looking forward to this time next year, going away for my 40th birthday.
I'm thinking maybe a 4 night city break- Prague, Italy... any travellers got good suggestions? It will be the end of November, so possibly cold enough.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 10/11/2019 17:31

End of this month for a child free shopping day to Manchester on the train(if this counts)
3 nights in ibiza in april then 2 weeks in Kos in August

merryhouse · 10/11/2019 17:50

Cambridge for the Carol Service and ridiculously indulgent college dinner on Christmas Eve Wine

blue25 · 10/11/2019 17:56

I get 30 days annual leave so use lots of this for holidays.

We have NY in December, Belgium in February, Cruise in April & Italy in July. Love our holidays and can’t imagine not leaving the country for 11 years!!

StCharlotte · 10/11/2019 18:03

BeThere Do you want a cold break?

If so Prague is lovely, likewise Tallin, Krakow, Ljubljana, Amsterdam etc.

Or milder? We have been to Florence and Seville in Winter and both have been warm enough to sit outside if you're in the sun.
