Pizza question

If you were ordering pizza, and you know each one is freshly made on demand, would you consider it to be going off menu if you asked for all the topping to be scattered on one half of the pizza and the other side to be left plain? No change to the ingredients, just a case of the pizza maker scattering the topping slightly to one side.

I'm intrigued as to what other people think!

No I wouldn’t consider it to be off menu

Lots of pizza places do 'half and half' so you can have 2 different toppings in one.

Alicia9999 · 08/11/2019 18:51

You can usually select this when ordering online... On dominoes you can select 'half and half', then just pick margarita for that side

wowfudge · 08/11/2019 18:52

You'd probably end up with half the topping. Good luck explaining what you want!

We do this quite regularly at our local takeaway when the kids share a pizza. Dc1 likes pepperoni but dc2 likes a plain cheese pizza. We order a pepperoni pizza and ask that’s its only on half. It’s never been a problem and we’re just charged for a pepperoni pizza.

I wouldn’t think of pizza as being as must stick the menu sort of thing. If it’s remotely decent it’s made fresh so it’s no effort. Also, practically everywhere serving pizza has some sort of create your own/half and half/add extra toppings option. So I’d consider it a perfectly standard pizza order even if half and half wasn’t explicitly stated on the menu.

I would consider it off-menu, yes. Even if they are all made on demand - rather than, as is often the case, a batch of the popular ones being made anyway in the knowledge people will want them - it's not going to be 'chef, make me a Hawaiian' it's going to be 'chef, make me a pizza that's plain on one half with ham and pineapple on the other'.

The reason I ask is because the pizza place refused to do it Grin They said they don't do half and half. I could understand if it was half and half, with two different toppings, but it was actually just a case of the chef taking his handful of mushrooms and scattering them to one side instead of all over, so I honestly don't understand what difference it would make. The pizzas are definitely made to order.

Anyway, I just ordered magherita instead and it was really lovely. No option to vote with my feet as I live rurally and its the only pizza place close enough to order from.

Just thought it was strange. Smile

Are you really certain they're made fresh? It doesn't sound like it if they would refuse that!

Pizzaconundrum · 08/11/2019 19:50

I'm certain they're made fresh because I was in the shop watching them make it!
