Is there much difference between an iPhone 7 and 8?

Dd currently has an iPhone 6 which is nearing the end of its life.

She's asked for an 8 as an Xmas present. I usually buy reconditioned models from Amazon, Music Magpie etc.

The price for an unlocked iPhone 8 is over £300 which is beyond our budget. I'm thinking of suggesting a 7 instead which is much cheaper.

Is there much difference between the 2 models?

Personally I think there’s hardly any difference but to a teenager yes there’s a world of difference just because it’s an 8 and not a 7....

I went from iPhone 6 to 8 and I can't tell the differences those apart from the camera which is a lot better.

DS just went from his iPhone 6 to my 2 year old iPhone 7+ and he's astonished that the touch ID works quickly every time, the battery life is better, it's much faster. He loves the bigger screen.

When I chose the 7+ I didn't see enough extra about the 8 for it to be worth the extra money.

I now have the 11 and I have to admit I love it.

Just gone from a 7 to an 8, shouldn’t have bothered won’t the upgrade, there’s next to no difference!

Thank you, so the 7 camera is still decent?

Yep, the 7 camera is decent. It's a touch slower than the 8 which has fancier autofocus but is basically the same. The major difference is wireless charging on the 8, which is not as good as it sounds - it's really slow. Go for the 7, save the £100+!

I've got no experience with the 8 but I'm genuinely surprised at how good the 7 runs still.

Not laggy, can get updates still and the camera is decent.

Yes same here.

Dd seems to think there is a possible software issue with the 7. Anyone know if that’s true?

Battery life on my iPhone 7 was terrible. Replaced the battery last year and it was still terrible. Upgraded now.

Justgivemesomepeace · 14/11/2019 22:17

The 8 has wireless charging and is water reststant, which the 7 isnt.

Youngatheart00 · 14/11/2019 22:19

@twosoups1972 apple typically stop releasing software updates (Inc security) for older models. As the 8 is still a ‘current’ model (apple selling on own website) I’d consider it unlikely this could happen for at least 2 years, but with the 7 there is a risk it could.
