Caribbean too hot for kids?

mcourt · 08/11/2019 12:50

Considering DR or Jamaica in May, will be a few kids between the ages of 18 months and 11 years. Google seems to suggest temps between 27-31. Too hot for kids? Anyone done it?

Well, people who live in the Caribbean have children too, you know!

Yes it's hot. But as long as they're appropriately dressed and have the right sun screen on, they'll be fine.

Depends on what you want to do with your holiday.
Potter round the pool in the morning, go inside for a long lunch, some screen time, a nap, out to the beach at 4 - sounds lovely.

Lie in bed til 11am, then decide you want to hire a rowing boat for 3 hrs and go across the bay til 3pm, not so brill.

You also need to look at the humidity. When we lived abroad, upto 40 was ok - but the air was bone dry. The higher the humidity, the higher the temperature feels (and I've no idea what the Caribbean is like in terms of humidity in May, sorry).

April to November is the rainy season, so it's more humid then

27-31 isn’t particularly hot Confused
As long as they have suncream applied properly, wear a hat, drink plenty of water and take breaks in the shade then they will be absolutely fine. Personally I don’t know that I’d voluntarily take a long haul flight with an 18 month old, I’ve done it and we all survived but it’s hard work until they can properly zone out and watch a film! Also, I think that’s the rainy season in the Caribbean. So no I probably wouldn’t do it but that has nothing to do with the temperature.

We've been in May to Cuba & the DR. DC were 3&8 then 5&10. Whilst officially it's the rainy season, it's not like you see in other parts of the world. Tends to pelt down then clear really quickly. It's also incredibly hot and stays hot through the night. Am guessing you are looking at resorts, which are geared up for keeping children out of direct sunlight so I think it'll be fine. I'd use TripAdvisor to make sure though.

27-31 is not hot! It's spring/autumn weather in the Mediterranean!
