Amazon Fire 7 or Amazon Fire for Kids

DS (14 months) is going to be in hospital for a few days and we want to get a tablet to entertain him. Is it worth paying extra to get the Amazon fire for kids? I like the worry free guarantee, but can it be used as a normal tablet if you switch off the kid mode?

It's the same thing essentially you get extended warranty, a case and a subscription to amazon for kids (TV and games) which otherwise costs £1.99 per month I think. So probably cheaper to get those things separately apart from the warranty. We have 2 that are 4 years old and 2 years old, will be replacing the older one this Xmas as its got quite slow and the charger connection is loose, but haven't had to claim on warranty and generally think 4 years use is excellent value for the price. 1st one was kids package and 2nd separate, they are exactly the same and both run on the same account with the same subscription.

OK. How much did they get chucked around though? DS is currently in the "Uh oh!" PhaseGrin

We got my son one and HATE it.
It's clunky, difficult to use and the battery life isn't great.
Wish we'd just got an iPad.

Our amazon fire is also difficult to navigate and now won’t charge so I’m just getting an iPad too

Hmmm. We don't really want/ need a tablet ourselves, this is just because he's in hospital, so don't mind if it's a bit fiddly
