World on fire! - Anyone Else watching?

So I just binged the new ‘world on fire’ series and wondered if anyone else thinks it’s as great as I do (I can’t find any other threads but if you know of some just shout!)

I can’t get my head around the Harry, Lois, kasia love triangle and this may be the first time I’ve ever wanted a man to leave his wife for the OW (if you’d even call Lois that).

I know he only married Kasia to save her life but honestly the more I watch the more Harry just irritates me! Lois is a great example of a very strong single mother/ independent woman but he just sort of stands there whilst she rejects him (obviously out of pride) and looks like a kicked puppy!

He’s never actually offered her anything, a plan, his feelings, honesty 😡

Anyone else got opinions??

Am surprised there hasn't been much more commentary on this - I could only find a (2 post) thread from September, before it started.

I've really been enjoying it.

SleepwalkingThroughLife · 07/11/2019 23:45

There is a thread somewhere that I have seen in active.

We are persevering with it but not enjoying it. Such wooden acting from so many.

I love it but have slightly different feelings from you. I find Lois very annoying as a character, quite entitled and immature. On the other hand, I think Kasia is amazing (and seriously admire the skills of the actress who plays her). The grief she's endured and the hell she's living, the sacrifices she's made, the inner strength she has, the fact she really is doing everything totally alone. I think she really shows Lois up.

I'm quite annoyed by the Vernon storyline. I find him creepy and he is essentially stalking Lois. As someone who has had a Vernon in her life that ended up with having to get the police involved, we need to stop perpetuating the myth that it's ok to just decide you want a certain woman then hassle and stalk her until she's finally so vulnerable that she gives in. These tropes in TV and film only serve to harm women in real life. I have a feeling that Lois will end up marrying Vernon despite not having feelings for him. I think she is actually quite self serving and that she would marry for money for her unborn child. I suspect that fact she currently wants nothing from Harry is a pride thing about the fact he chose another woman over her rather than a feminist "I can do this alone" thing.

Harry is a bit simpering but he has made alot of sacrifices and helped a lot of people. He shouldn't have had sex with Lois after marrying Kasia, even if it was only a marriage of convenience (I'm not sure it was actually). Both Harry and Lois would know there was a risk of pregnancy and Harry knew that he couldn't do the socially acceptable thing and marry Lois.
He also should have insisted he play a role in the child's life imo, I was frustrated with him last week just looking on helpless as Lois strutted off.

Lots of other interesting storylines too. Devasting storyline about the epileptic child and also the gay couple. Very worried about the future of Albert the saxophonist being gay and black and currently locked up.

Harry does not deserve either woman.
Vernon on the other hand is lovely and his declaration of love to Lois was so pure. I hope he marries her.

@NameChange84

😊 Yay I really hoped I’d get some other points of view.

I think Lois feels ‘less than’ with Harry and finds it hard to swallow their societal differences. She was always seen as ‘unsuitable’ for Harry and looked down on by his mother.
I married a man with a better education, career and more money and I think because of that I empathise with Lois and her internal struggle to not feel like the constant underdog to Harry - she pushes him away and he just lets her every time never fights for her or takes a stand.
They were idiots having sex but I think if we are honest he was never really ‘over’ Lois simply distracted by Kasia.
I do believe he loved her when he married her BUT he would he have married her without the pressures of the war and feeling he was saving her life? No he wouldn’t hence why he deliberated over it so much he wasn’t comfortable with the decision initially because he wasn’t over lois.
‘You’re not choosing which girl to love you’re just choosing to save this girls life’ or something like that!

However, you’re totally right with Your summary of Kasia and how amazingly strong/independent she is. However, she will be deeply affected by what she’s been through and seen and I don’t think the Kasia Harry married is ever going to come back and if her and Harry do reunite I don’t think they’ll be very compatible at all.
I have a feeling that they’ll reunite when Harry runs off to do his 007 spy mission thing.

As for vernon, I agree that he has serious potential to be very stalker ish and sets off a few red flags. It’s not ideal to teach young girls that a guy will pick them out and fixate in them in that way. However at the moment he’s told her how he feels and left it at that. Whether he actually turns creepy will depend entirely on what happens next. Right now he’s surfing a cute/creepy grey area - he needs to step right back and let Lois either Make the next move or not!
