Give me your tips for nerves

I decided it was a good idea to join a musical society earlier in the year and I auditioned For a main solo part which I got. Anyway tonight is the opening night and I am absolutely petrified! I haven’t done anything like this since school, my family is coming, my colleagues are coming. The more I think about it the worse I’m getting!

Any tips for remaining calm before and during the show?

Ooh I feel your pain. Performance anxiety is horrific.

It's probably too late to get to the GP for some propranolol... do you have a walk-in centre that might prescribe you some?

Failing that there's breathing exercises, meditation, mindfulness ... all of limited effectiveness unless you do them regularly.

Active distraction is probably your best bet. Brisk walking, cleaning, sanding woodwork... something mindless that uses up excess adrenaline and pumps out endorphins.
