Mothercare gone under

Not a surprise really. They could have done so much more with their stores and offering!

Feeding room, workshops, built newborn packages, demoing products, making cafes etc

What does everyone think?

Sad.

I'm not surprised, I always found them very expensive and the only thing I bought from them for my son (their Amble stroller) broke within a week!

Oops, forgot to say that obviously it is very sad for their employees though especially just before christmas.

Yes I agree. What an awful Christmas for them. 😢

I'm sad for the workers. Hopefully others recruiting Christmas staff will take them on quickly, and may be able to offer permanent roles after.

I'm also sick of the government telling us the economy is flourishing, when all I can see is businesses going under.

I rather stupidly thought that Mothercare was the place to go when I was pg with my 1st and I was looking forward to using them. The service was dreadful, the staff would/could not answer any of our questions about the products they were selling or give any advice and the goods were incredibly expensive. We only used them twice. They could have offered so much more but I think they relied on their name for far too long without moving with the times.

Sad for the employees but I hated the shops and products. Gender stereotyping in the clothes and very overpriced. Better offering in the supermarket where I was going already and didn’t have to make a trip to an awful out of town retail park. It’s been shaky for ages so it’s no surprise.

OtraCosaMariposa · 06/11/2019 08:21

The problem with Mothercare is that they don't/didn't offer anything you couldn't get elsewhere. They used to corner the market on breast pumps, maternity clothes, strollers, cots. Now you can get all those things online, from Argos or the supermarkets.

I bought a few things from them when pregnant with my first 17 years ago, I found the quality OK, the staff certainly didn;t have any particular expertise, and it was expensive, especially things like clothing.

coffeeforone · 06/11/2019 08:54

Unfortunately they are just too expensive. You can get most of the stuff from Amazon or Asda so much cheaper. The one thing I bought from Mothercare was a pram and had absolutely terrible customer service. It arrived two weeks late and there was an important part missing and their CS didn't want to know. In the end I had go to cybex directly who were great.

Very sad for the employees though Sad
