Is it possible to learn ice skating as a complete beginner at the age of mid-20s?

Please let me know of any anecdotes of people who've learnt it successfully in their mid-20s or later.

Yes, I went once with school when I was about 15, but I did rollerskate in the 80s so could go round the rink but that was it.

Took a course of ice skating lessons for beginners with Dh when we were in our 30s at a local ice rink. Was incredibly fun, also hard work in terms of cardio but definitely worth it.

Yes lots of children were there on the other rink taking lessons and spinning but this one I did was aimed at adults, and I can tell you that there were people in their 50s. Do it!

I’m 34 have been doing lessons for about 6 weeks now. Definitely doable

Check your ice rink, ours do a coffee and cake morning for more 'mature' students including beginners. Ice skating is generally quite inclusive, just about finding the right coach. I watched a video on FB of a woman in her 80s that was still skating five times a week, she said she finds skating easier than walking!

Dancing on Ice? Aren't almost all of them beginners?

LittleAndOften · 05/11/2019 23:10

I believe the show Dancing on Ice is based on this premise Grin

Go for it!

Hell yeah! Do it, it's really fun. I went to a rink for a day time lesson and I think the oldest person was 60s, she looked like a pro!

I'm nearly 50 Shock and started lessons 3 years ago. I love it.
There's always something new to learn or improve and it's a physical and mental challenge.

Go for it I'm 42 & i had my 3rd lesson today. I'm only doing it to amaze my kids I'm having secret lessons. Its part of life where we live my kids go 3/4 times a week, even my almost 3 yr old. I only tend to have a go when we are at the outdoor rinks at Christmas. Every year I'm that person gingerly going around the outside clinging to the side. Not this year!, I cannot wait to see there faces
