"resort" type holiday in UK?

YogaLite · 05/11/2019 19:50

I am looking for a resort-type place for a few days in UK, is there such a thing as a more upmarket Butlins?
It could be a hotel or a chalet holiday park (as long as not self catering or caravans) and with some facilities ie swimming pool, entertainment (shows rather than amusement arcades), activities like maybe dancing lessons or games during the day.
Or similar in Europe within 1/2 day driving distance from the ports.
Like Club Med but unfortunately none close enough and don't want to fly.

Potters resort - Norfolk (or Suffolk can't remember)

Sandy Balls?

YogaLite · 05/11/2019 20:48

Thank u, Ashbury, Manor and Potters sound promising.

Sandy Balls is self catering unfortunately.

Will look at Blue Stone as I like Wales!

Chief Hydro is hideous. It's like a retirement home.

Stabbitha · 05/11/2019 20:54

Butlins is great. Don't rule it out. The slightly more luxury accomdation is lovely and the premium dining plan is fab.

blamethecat · 05/11/2019 20:57

Bluestone is self catering, but with places to eat on site. I love it there.

terriblyangryattimes · 05/11/2019 20:59

Bluestone is great and they've just fone up the entertainment bit I think. Lots of free activities and some paid. Great lodges and great views BUT it's a long drive! (Well, from most areas!)

Elllicam · 05/11/2019 21:01

I loved Crieff hydro, tons of childcare, lots of activities and loved the spa.

YogaLite · 05/11/2019 21:02

We have been to 2 Butlins, it was ok, prefer Bognor to Minehead, but there wasn't much outdoor nice space and the tent stuff felt a bit tacky.

Bedruthan Steps hotel in Cornwall?

Venger · 05/11/2019 21:24

Skegness Butlins is the nicest of the three IMO, its smaller than the other two and the location is good for striking out into the local area. Premium dining and premium accommodation is definitely the way to go and you can buy queue jumper passes for the shows as well as passes that give you a guaranteed seat and table service drinks in the main venue.

YogaLite · 05/11/2019 21:44

Skegness going on the list.

I hope to go to one of these still this year and get to a few more next year.

The Sandy Balls chalets are self-catering but they have two restaurants on site. There is also a spa if you feel like some pampering, and lots of activities (like a mini Centre Parks).

YogaLite · 05/11/2019 22:07

That's good to know re Sandy Balls, I have heard good things about it so will consider, the area sounds nice.
