Anyone else saving for a house?

DH and I have been half-arsedly saving for a house for a little while, but have decided to throw everything we have at it in the hope of being able to look with the intention to buy come August/September time Grin

I'm trying to get my head into some serious budgeting and being sensible with money so we can see our savings going up, but I'm already so impatient/excited and kicking myself that we didn't start this time last year!

Anyone else in the same boat?

Me and my partner starting to save like mad for a house deposit too. I have opened a help to buy ISA. It has been recommended by Martin Lewis only thing is deadline is 30 November but I went to bank Thursday to ask about opening one and was able to open one instantly. Government will give you 25% of your savings as a bonus when completing house purchase. You are allowed to pay in £1,200 when opening and after that it is capped at £200 a month.

If in receipt of tax credits, universal credit, JSA or ESA you can open a help to save account. You can pay in a maximum of £50 a month and after 24 months you get a bonus of 50% of your highest balance. If you move off the benefit you are on your account still stays open.

I’m so sick of paying rent to greedy landlords that don’t want to keep property in good condition. Our house is full of damp and letting agents/landlord doesn’t really care, my daughters rotten window only got replaced as we notified council it was dangerous yet landlord was dragging heels to replace it. We not entitled to housing benefit but makes me angry when I think of how many landlords receiving money from housing benefit yet don’t keep property in good condition.
