I don't understand why boy B got a longer sentence. I know he didn't stop boy A but he didn't actually kill her.

Potnoodledoo · 05/11/2019 14:59

He didnt Boy A got life to be reviewed after 12 years.
Boy B 15 years to be reviewed after 8 years

OP posts:
Aposterhasnoname · 05/11/2019 15:00

He didn’t. Boy A got life. Technically that’s longer than 15 years although he’ll likely be out in 12. Boy B got 15 years so out in 7-8 years.

betaboo · 05/11/2019 15:06

Shameful sentence for both of them.

Cinderellasma · 05/11/2019 15:13

Absolutely heartbreaking. Cannot stop thinking about the poor parents.

Potnoodledoo · 05/11/2019 15:15

@Aposterhasnoname maybe because Boy A admitted it and Boy B didnt.

OP posts:
BrennieGirl · 05/11/2019 15:15

Ah ok. I misread the article.

betaboo · 05/11/2019 15:23

They both denied murder ...... only recently during his detention has Boy A agreed that he "caused her death", i.e. not admitting that he murdered her. He still denies that he brutally sexually assaulted her, despite the forensic evidence.

Boy B was convicted of murder, however he still maintains the only wrong he did was not to intervene when Boy A was assaulting her.

ProfFlitwick · 05/11/2019 17:46

To my mind Boy A should be kept in a secure facility for dangerous sexual offenders, until death preferably. He's clearly a danger to the public!!! I personally would be happy for a higher chunk of my tax to be spent on locking bastards like that up. Sick, sick individual, whatever the psychiatrist says.

As for Boy B, he sounds like an arrogant little prick who was easily led perhaps. I hope he realises the enormity of what he's done, and tries to do something good with the rest of his life to atone.
.

MargieMo · 05/11/2019 19:09

It also makes me wonder about the boys parents. They know what happened, they will know their children ... and yet they do not seem to acknowledge any wrongs.

I'd be more worried about the kids parents attitude! They obviously think this is all OK?

LoseLooseLucy · 05/11/2019 19:22

I only read about this poor girl the other day, on here.

I wish they could be locked up for the rest of their lives.

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 05/11/2019 19:24

Very lenient sentences, all the more shocking because there seems to be no remorse or understanding of what they have done.

Heartbreaking to read about Anna's life story.

Igobacktoblack · 05/11/2019 19:27

I've had parents of my ex sit side by side with him in cout opposite me while my face was still disfigured.
Parents are a strange species.

Igobacktoblack · 05/11/2019 19:29

I don't think they were lenient sentences? Life and 15 years? For two then 13 year olds?

BlueBirdGreenFence · 05/11/2019 19:30

This entire case just cuts straight to my heart. I followed the coverage extensively and it was so striking that this was a failure of an entire community. So many people not quite brave enough to say it but almost insinuating that the horrendous bullying she suffered by many of her peers at school was almost her own fault as she didn't tread the same path as everyone else. RIP Ana.

Igobacktoblack · 05/11/2019 19:34

I was just listening to a radio programme about this earlier and BoyA had 2k images or similar on his phone of porn, some of it violent.

BOTH boys apparently came from 'loving' 'good' homes.

The gist of the radio show was 'WHY??'

Igobacktoblack · 05/11/2019 19:37

Bluebird, her being bullied was awful. I wonder if it somehow morphed into her murder?
Bullying should be addressed immediately. Cut off the head of the snake.

BlueBirdGreenFence · 05/11/2019 19:56

Yes exactly IGo. Some of the descriptions bordered on dehumanising. And most definite victim blaming in regards to the school bullying. That it was ok to exclude her because she was "odd". She also had additional needs which makes it all the worse. That the school didn't bother sorting it no matter how many times her parents complained. It was so striking that her mother knew straight away, when she was gone less than half an hour with her peers that it was something nefarious.

Igobacktoblack · 06/11/2019 00:00

I have a 15 year old girl so this is all very relevant to me. Thankfully (touch wood) she seems to have a good group of friends.
When you worry about them, they have no idea why. And you can't put an old head on young shoulders.
She's not living in a city where she can go off (getting her to her friends requires driving). But still I worry.

Igobacktoblack · 06/11/2019 00:06

Why a 13 year old had access to violent porn is another question. Especially because he came from a 'good' home.

Mammy fucked up there I'm afraid to say. Good home or not.

I was surprised at the sentences they got.

(First let me say the sentences are NOT good enough. Life should mean life I don't care that they were 13. She was a 14 year old girl who was brutally attacked and murdered. Her life is over. There's aren't).

I was expecting much lighter sentences. The whole, they were kids etc etc crap. Plus we are crap at sentences over here.

I was surprised they even gave them what they did.

Hollyhobbi · 06/11/2019 02:14

I was afraid they would get lighter sentences too @PotterHead1985. My own daughter is the same age as Ana. In fact her birthday is 2 days after Ana's. One of the women in work's uncle knows one of the boys families. Ireland is a small place and it's chilling to think these monsters could be out in a few years time looking to prey on other women or girls. Her poor parents have been so dignified through all of this. And it's even worse when you think they adopted Ana from Russia so she could have a better life in a safe place.

catinb0oots · 06/11/2019 03:15

"If I ruled the world Bit A would be put down, killed, got rid off."

Good job you don't then.

Lucinda88 · 06/11/2019 07:23

It always fascinates me when people try and find some tenous link with the people in a tragic case like this, as if they will somehow be able to claim a level of involvement or a right to grieve. Its weird and I wonder why. What's with all the 'my uncle's friends dog once walked across a piece of grass within 2 miles of the boys town' or 'ooh? My child is the same age but actually shares no other similarities' .

And as for the comment 'mammy fucked up'. Why? How is it just the mothers fault?

And then the person who apparently has an educational role (so presumably a professional) commenting they would like to see one of the boys put down. Wow.

What a bunch of vultures.

It's a tragic case and I'm sorry for all the families involved. Nothing more to say.
