Best gluten-free treats and cakes for children

Can anyone recommend some treats and chocolates that I could add to a party bag for a child with coeliac? Also, if there are any cakes that are particularly good? The other children have some chocolate that contains barley malt and are getting a cupcake. Thank you!

How thoughtful! My 6 year old niece has coeliac disease, she understands that she can’t always eat the same foods as everyone else, but it would upset her at parties and celebrations where GF food wasn't available (my sisters now takes food and treats for her)

Most supermarkets have a good free from range now. My niece has tried a lot of GF cupcakes but didn’t like them, she likes these:

• Lovemore Gluten Free Lemon Cake Slices – Ocado

• Mrs Crimble’s macaroons, her favourites have jam.
• Magnums are gluten free & Lidl do a great range of GF ice-cream cones.

It would be worth bagging the GF foods first to reduce cross contamination, particularly if you use products that are not individually wrapped

That would be really helpful thank you! I know there are quite a few gluten-free ranges out there but I’m guessing some are better than others. I want to be able to provide something nice for this child and for them to not feel left out.

Marks and Spencer do a wide range of gluten free food,cakes included. They seem to get good reviews.

Galaxy minstrals are Gluten free so are Haribo star mix, coke botles, fried eggs, gummy bears etc

Cadbury Fudge is gluten free.

I like Sainsbury's free from range & tesco is good too. If you go to any free from section in a big supermarket you should find a decent selection of gf.

My toddler son loves Tesco Free From chocolate brownie bites and angel cake slices. Genius muffins are also good, but more costly.

No one range is consistently good, all ranges have some good things and some awful things.
My current favourite Tesco finest gluten free chocolate enrobed cookies and cream biscuits - a very fancy way of describing a FF chocolate covered Oreo. The vast majority of galaxy if gluten free. Watch crisps most walkers are not GF, nearly all Tyrell's and kettle are GF.

I made gf and df sweet potato chocolate brownies
Just 4 ingredients
Peanut butter
Mashed sweet potato
Cocoa powder
A sweetener ... maple syrup, honey, muscovado sugar

It's safer to buy prepared GF products.

The risk of cross contamination baking GF cakes in your kitchen is huge, most baking powder for example contains wheat. Could you guarantee, to the parents of a child with coeliac disease, that your kitchen/baking utensils were not gluten contaminated, e.g. chopping board, wooden spoon, sieve. Also, glue used in straws, paper plates & cups may contain wheat.
