So I have looked on entitled too for benefits, it looks like we can get some universal credit for housing, however does anyone know whether we can if the landlord is a relative? We have a proper tenancy agreement. Thanks

Just to add, the property has been rented out for the last 7 years to someone else and it has no mortgage on it.

I would think that if your liable to pay rent who ever the landlord is you should be entitled to some housing benefit. It's worth putting a claim in even if they refuse it but I don't think it should be an issue.

So long as the relative treats you as any other tenant then who owns the property is not important. You have a tenancy agreement and that is all they need to see
