Hello

We have all had a nasty sickness and tummy bug. I was last Sunday, fine Tuesday. DD was Thursday, dh yesterday.

DD is 1 years old. She was last sick Friday maybe 4 am. She was off all day Friday, fine Saturday. But, she does still have upset tummy. Pre bug I had been dropping formula and as a result of bug she is back up to four bottles a day. It's baby poop if that makes sense. She ate normally yesterday.

She has nursery tomorrow so four days since sickness, but do I count the diarrhoea in that rule?

I'm not convinced it's the bug making her poop like that and think it's more the amount of milk as her nappies are just like they were pre weaning.

Thank you.

You say that she does 'still have an upset tummy' in which case keep her off.

moobar · 04/11/2019 09:05

Thank you, yup upset tummy as in usual baby poop, well usual for her. Weaning had sorted that out so that's why I'm hesitating. Not sure if it's milk making it like that or bug.

Don’t send her to nursery if she still has an upset stomach. These things spread so easily, think of all the other kids

I am thinking of the other kids. That's why I'm asking.

But I'm balancing that against health anxiety total over the top reactions from me when shes not well. Or coughs. Or sneezes. She has one baby poop a day instead of more solid. It could be the milk. I dont know. I will keep her off another week happily. But I do over react to these things.

If I get you op, you're not sure if it's diarrhea or soft baby poo fro mall the milk.

I'd give her 1 extra day on normal food as that should make it clear if it's milk or bug. They should def solidify today if she's well

moobar · 04/11/2019 09:32

Thank you that's a good idea. Shes in tuesday and Thursday so might keep her home tomorrow and see.

I'm useless at this. I kept her off with a mild cold. Took her next week and every baby there was snotty and coughing way worse than she had been. I asked why they were all in and staff said fine unless unwell in themselves. What does that even mean. Since she started all she has had is bugs. Normal I know but I'm finding it tough.

Fine unless unwell in themselves means look at your child's behaviour. Are they acting normal? Then it's fine to go in. Are they a bit limp and not as energetic as usual? Or perhaps more whiny? Then they're not well in themselves.

If her poo is normal for how she was on breastmilk before then she's likely ok to go in. My daughter had ridiculously runny poo until she was about 2.5 when we finally managed to sort her out after a year of lactulose. Thus I'd send her in with runny poo all the time because it was her normal. Diahorrea is if it's three of that type of poo in short spaces of time. If your daughter is only doing one runny poo in the day (like mine) then she's likely not got an upset tummy. It's all about what's normal for your child.

welshweasel · 04/11/2019 09:36

So she had one squidgy poo yesterday? Yes I’d have sent her in! When they have diarrhoea you know about it. Ditto with a cold. Both my kids are snotty and have a cough about 50% of the time. They only get kept off nursery if feverish or really miserable .

moobar · 04/11/2019 09:43

Yes so pre weaning one runny poop a day.

Weaning two normal poops.

Thursday and friday clearly had diarrhoea and sickness.

Saturday 2 runny poops.

Sunday 1 runny poop.

Today 1 at breakfast as normal for her

Double the milk she would normally have. Although yesterday appetite back overall but I stuck to plain foods like toast and banana.
Will see what happens today. I dont want anyone else to get it but appreciate I'm over the top.

Were Saturday's two poo explosions within an hour or two of each other?

SleepingStandingUp · 04/11/2019 09:47

"well in themselves" I would take to mean still running round like a crazed chicken / whatever is normal VS being really sleepy / tired, extra clingy, clearly in pain, personality different to when we'll.

You'll start to gauge when she is fine to go in, especially as you see other kids in etc but it's also fine to keep them off when you think they should be off subject to work etc

moobar · 04/11/2019 10:41

No Saturday was just two one morning one afternoon which is typical for her daily generally.

Then I'd say she's totally fine to go in :) That's not a runny tummy. A runny tummy is several in short succession. I know way more than I want to know about poo!
