Way TMI: period smell

Name changed.
My periods are causing various problems recently (mostly because they are tsunami like). But the last two have really... Smelt!
It's really quite strong almost sewery smell.
Anyone else have this? Ive repeatedly seen various GPs who all tell me to keep a diary etc. But wondered if this has happened to anyone else?

Also perimenopausal with heavy periods, and also notice a distinct weird and not-nice smell just before it starts and on day 1 of period. Then it stops. Never had it before so am wondering if it’s yet another menopause-related treat. Fairly sure that if it were BV or festering tampon it would carry on smelling bad?

Thanks everyone else for your advice, Im 99% sure its not a lost tampon (though that other lost tampon thread made me laugh!).

BV - I will look into that. Im 40 and I dont think menopausal. My GP (well two or them Ive seen) to be honest aren't very helpful or sympathetic. They just tell me to get the coil (which I repeatedly explain why this isnt a good option for me).
No odour at any other time.
I am a bit anxious about it to be honest as I was half wondering about some sort of cancer or something. But BV seems like it could be a liklihood and hopefully sortable.
