Hi. So I'm new to this page so I am sorry if I posted this is in the wrong part took me a while to work out how to even post.
I've just got a question to ask about my daughter... She always seem to have a lower temperature at night when she's asleep. Tonight its 35.7 I'm not sure how low this is classed as but goggle scares the life out of me and says its hyperthermic been that low. She seems fine its just always when she's asleep is this normal for babys to drop temperature she's 11 weeks old on Wednesday. Also I usually sleep with a fan on in the bedroom and now it's getting colder have turned it off but I like having it on as keeps the air circulated if anyone's got any tips on how I could keep the room air circulating without the fan on that would be lovely
Thanks in advance x

What temperature is your bedroom and what does your baby wear to bed?
Is the thermometer accurate?

OctoberLovers · 03/11/2019 20:21

She will be cold with a fan on.

100% turn it off

What is baby wearing?
Is baby always this temperature?
Is the fan always on?

Why are you taking her temperature in the night?

JodiiNicole310193 · 03/11/2019 20:24

The room thermostat is saying is 22.2 but it feels cold to me and my other half in here. I only use fan because there's 3 of us in here and thought that would cause bad air.... And she's in a 2.5 gro bag and sleepsuit with extra socks and mits on. She did have her immunisations done on Friday which could be somewhat to do with it but she also has been cold before when in bed x

I don't normally check it at night I just thought she felt really cold to touch so checked it and it said 35.7 which I wasnt sure was that low as its been that before so googled it and I noticed this page which seemed really helpful to ask on x

How did you take the temperature? Forehead, Underarm, rectal?

Because it makes a huge difference

SoyDora · 03/11/2019 20:33

I just wondered because I have three children (5,4 and 9 months) and have never taken their temperature except when obviously ill, so have no idea what their overnight temp might be.
In the absence of any illness or symptoms it’s very unlikely that she is hyperthermic.
It is very normal for a baby to have cold extremities at night. If you feel her back and chest, are they warm?
The air will be fine without a fan on, it’s completely normal for people to share a room without a fan.

JodiiNicole310193 · 03/11/2019 20:34

So I have a braun one that goes in her ear which said 35.8 and I have the tempa dots ones that hospital use under her arm which said 35.7 xx

All a fan does is move air around. So you’re breathing exactly the same air, with or without the fan.

Maryann1975 · 03/11/2019 20:36

You don’t need a fan on this time of year. Even with 3 if you in the room, the air will be fine, leave the bedroom door propped open a bit if you like the air to circulate a bit.

How many times did you check the temperature? And are you sure you are doing it correctly? I know from experience I can get several different readings with an ear thermometer, if the tip isn’t far enough in to the ear it comes back to low and it could be that you are being too cautious with positioning?

Also, the temperature you get can be different depending where you take it from. I’ve been told those thermoscan forehead ones are not great for accuracy too.

I grabbed her straight out the basket and have been cuddling her to warm her up since but I only checked her temperature once with ear one and have also seen people mention the bad readings from not been far enough in the ear ect so checked with under the arm one and they were similar readings she's now 36.1 according to the ear reading but she's under my duvet with me having a cuddle xxx

Thankyou for the advice about the fan. I've turned it off and will leave it off x
