Hard hat donned. Shoulders broadened. Ready for MN honest opinion.
I've seen enough Facebook tat threads, I do not want my stuff featured on them.
I've been learning dot art and wondered if my bits are good enough to sell. I'm being really brave and posting here to get a feel for if they are shite or not.
Be honest, I can take it (I have wine in the fridge)

OP I thought we were here to slag them off and I was prepared to tell you that you were wrong and they are really nice!

But we aren't here to bitch.

I absolutely love them! I love dot work like that though and I love Christmas so you have combined two things I love.

Thank you!

Getting there with a facebook page. Not brave enough/good enough for Etsy but will link the facebook page on marketplace and see what happens.
I wouldn't have had the confidence to even to get this far without everyone's encouragement, advice and feedback so thank you!

Sorry OP but no I wouldn't buy them personally, it's more that it does look like fairly cheap starting products purchased from £land or hobby craft etc (the plates, the mini easels) that have been drawn on. It's not a comment on the ability (which is sound) so much as the starting quality. Re: the plates I think the motif's need to be precisely central also. I'd also not want non matching plates to the rest of the service anyway, so it's not my bag. The nordic designs are very nice and the trees are pretty.

I see no reason why you can't set up an Etsy/Folksy or sell them on ebay? It's not for 'proper' artists at all, there's all sorts on there to be honest and it takes an age to get off the ground so you may as well start if you really want to have a decent crack at it. What's the worst that could happen!

I really would work on the alignment though, I think that would cause you potential problems when selling (returns etc). If I purchased something made to order and it arrived as such I would return it.

Perhaps framed prints (on good quality paper, in good quality frames, charged at a higher price) might work.

I would factor in your time into the price, no idea how long one takes but would you even be making money? Work out how plates a pen lasts vs the cost of it, the cost of the plate, petrol or postage etc involved in acquiring it, your own post and packaging costs- you don't want to end up costing yourself money. I'd be inclined to see how it goes on facebook and then build up stock for next xmas and do the craft markets if it's a serious gesture.

TrickyKid · 05/11/2019 12:40

Not my taste but I think they'd sell, particularly the trees.

elizalovelace · 05/11/2019 12:44

Really like the trees, the plates arent my thing. The Nordic/ Scandi suggestions are good. You are talented OP hope you do make some ££ from it. Good luck.

TrickyKid · 05/11/2019 12:45

No to the easels, what would you do with them? I'd want the design on the dishes to be central, it looks a bit odd being slightly off centre. You'd need to be consistent with design if people are buying multiple times.

HeatedDryer · 05/11/2019 12:51

Thank you. I am going to put a few sweets/chocs in the dish to show how small they are, little dishes 10cm across. Not plates at all but I can see how they might look that way in the pics so will get that sorted.
Re the alignment, point taken, they are pretty central in real life, I think the camera angle makes it look a bit off. I'm quite fussy about these thingsSmile. And re the cheap easels, yep they are £1 from The Works, would probably sell for £2.50 so if someone wants a cheap little stocking filler that would be perfect, if they are looking for a high quality little easel they will need to look elsewhere! Framed prints would not work as you cannot put painted dots behind glass, they just don't look right, they need to be on an open canvas. Thanks for the further suggestions, I will leave this thread now to concentrate on getting this up and running, with my heartfelt thanks to all of you for your valuable contributions SmileSmileSmile

I love the little easels it's something my Dd would have on her desk. If you set up a fb page PLEASE link it here!

Myneighboursnorlax · 05/11/2019 14:33

The trees are really really nice, to the point where I actually want some if you end up posting a link to a shop. The plates are nice too, but not my thing.

ODFOx · 05/11/2019 15:32

It may be the photos but your patterns don't look centred on the Christmas bowls and the L is too high on you latest easel.
It makes them look more amateur than some of the other things.
I like the little tree ornaments but wouldn't risk ordering crockery as the pictures look as if the results would be variable. Again, might be the photos.

Sparklyring · 05/11/2019 17:13

I would love to buy the trees! Would you PM a link to your page please?

NoTeaForMe · 05/11/2019 17:24

I like the initials on the easels and the Christmas trees. The Christmas bowl/plates aren’t quite right. I agree with the poster who said the star looked more like a starfish.
I like the initials bowl, the one with the softer line is much better. Could you do mugs as well? I think they’d sell well.

PlasticPatty · 05/11/2019 17:25

OP, I like your work. Please consider the time you put in, and the resources you have used, when pricing and when deciding on further lines to introduce.

I saw, somewhere online, a woman selling those weirdo net scrubby things for the bath. They'd cost her around £30 each in time and resources and she was selling for £3. Another was selling beautiful dragons, real works of art, for around £30. Make things that allow you some profit.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 05/11/2019 17:25

I love your work. I actually thought that a display of the trees in different sizes (much bigger than tree ornaments) would be a lovely way to decorate a bathroom for the holidays. Or any shelf really - they are beautiful.

Love the simple star and ribbon plate. Really nice. Do link please!

fartingrainbows · 05/11/2019 18:14

At the prices you've just said, they're the type of niknacky things I'd pick up for secret Santa and for my own tree. They're pretty and would probably sell well at a Christmas fair.
