Ale in a pie... toddler

This is a potentially ridiculous question so apologies in advance....

Can a 2 year old eat a homemade steak an ale pie?

I.e. will the ale still be alcoholic after the cooking process?

Yes they can, and no it won't. The alcohol will almost certainly be long gone by the time of eating.

Cohle · 03/11/2019 13:00

Yes I wouldn't think twice about it.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 03/11/2019 13:00

Yes!

Mine are having chicken in cream and wine sauce for dinner 🤷🏻‍♀️ They often have stews etc with red wine or ale in.

Toddlers portions are fairly small so I’ve never seen it as an issue

Depends how long the food is cooked for - most of the alcohol remains unless it is simmered uncovered for a couple of hours.

But presumably with a small amount of low alcohol ale in the recipe and a toddler only eating a small portion, the actual amount of alcohol they consume will be minimal.

Mysterian · 03/11/2019 13:12

If you cook with alcohol there will always be a small amount left unless you turn the food totally dry, but a tiny amount won't hurt a child.

Thanks all

There's very little alcohol left after cooking because it evaporates at a lower temp that water, if your stew is steaming hot then it's likely to be alcohol free and one bottle of beer between 6 portions wouldn't hurt him anyway

I gave mine steak and ale pie without even thinking about the ale bit.

Rest assured that they weren't rolling around the floor drunk afterwards.

Oh don't lolll I can't believe some of us do end up thinking or asking similar things 😆 I was thinking the same when looking at pies especially with the cold weather now here, I also had the same thoughts about beer bettered cod fish fingers 🤣
