I want to get rid of my top lip hair

My plan us to remove it with Veet and then se Phillips Lumea to weaken its growth. Will I regret it? I'm paranoid it'll grow back stronger...

Earringsandlipstick shaving it doesn't really make any difference to the feel of it, it pretty much grows the same as it would after waxing or creaming, I'm not sure why people think shaving it would suddenly make you sprout a full on man's moustache. Its a huge myth, no doubt made by women's hair removal companies and beauty salons to make us spend shit loads on something which can be sorted for a few pounds.

Zippetydoodahzippetyay · 04/11/2019 06:18

Be very careful and disclose all medication to the beauty therapist. I have been left with scarring far worse than the hair I used to have due to the trauma waxing caused while taking a medication that I hadn't realised made my skin super sensitive.

ilovetofu · 05/11/2019 22:40

@Blackbird1234 does the PL
hurt?

howrudeforme · 05/11/2019 22:44

Does lumea hu

howrudeforme · 05/11/2019 22:47

Yikes!

Does the lumea hurt. I thick dark (I mean thick). My upper lip I bleach and it’s dreadful as I now have blond hair against olive skintone😣.

I also worry about the shaving before. Feel liked I’d need a couple of weeks not leaving my home to sort it!

PlasticPatty · 05/11/2019 22:51

Use a spring tweezer. Very effective. www.tweezerman.com/smooth-finish-facial-hair-remover.html
Shaving does make a difference. The re-growing hair is blunt at the end -stubble - so is rough to the touch. Epilator of tweezers don't give that effect.
Waxing is great fun the first time but soon messes with the skin.

IrrationalIrational · 05/11/2019 22:59

I use an electric shaver it’s called flawless you can use it on your cheeks for downy hair too

Jux · 05/11/2019 23:12

I use Louis Marcel removal cream. It works pretty well. I leave it on for 15 minutes and read a book while I'm waiting.

goingtotown · 05/11/2019 23:57

@Irrationallrational Do you mean the JML Flawless Touch that’s battery operated?

IrationalIrational · 06/11/2019 00:26

@goingtotown yes that’s the one. It’s really good. There isn’t much options for removing that sort of hair unless you dermaplaning which is expensive

Blackbird1234 · 07/11/2019 09:30

@ilovetofu No, it doesn't. On most areas I can't feel anything other than some heat coming from the machine (normal) and every now and then I get a very small "zap" that feels like a rubber band being snapped on my skin for less than a second - this is usually due to a rogue hair that I've missed whilst shaving, a beauty spot or a darker patch of skin.

When it zaps me it's slightly uncomfortable but not painful and you always have the option of reducing the power in sensitive areas. For example, I use the setting number 5 on my legs and arms, but go down to 3 for my bikini line and then back up to 4 for my armpits and top lip.

I was sceptical before buying it as well and spent a lot of months researching, but honestly just go for it, it's a total game changer and I couldn't be happier with it. There are loads of forums on MN about this if you want to read more about it.

P.S no one told me this beforehand, but you can't use it on tattoos!

ilovetofu · 07/11/2019 09:36

Thanks @Blackbird1234
I've been considering getting one as have the supposedly correct colouring. Am I right in thinking you have to shave first then zap?
Do you even have to do this to upper lip/ bikini areas?

Misty999 · 07/11/2019 09:46

Veet was strips takes seconds every other week. Hair removal cream should be banned full of chemical nasties and will burn your face.

Blackbird1234 · 08/11/2019 14:29

@ilovetofu Yes, you shave every area that you want to treat first, then you zap, nothing else required.
Yep you'll need to shave the upper lip and bikini, but honestly don't worry about it, yes it grows back a little bit but then you simply shave it again without any worries as it's short term anyway until all of the hairs are zapped. I was nervous too, but after doing 3-4 treatments there's really no need to worry :)

EpcotForever · 08/11/2019 14:34

Waxing doesn't leave spots. Go to a salon that uses hot wax. It will be more £ than strip wax but it doesn't remove any skin so minimal redness. Takes 5 minutes.

pascalstriangle · 08/11/2019 14:42

I've got the JML thing mentioned by snowman on page 1 - got it as a gift and it's changed my life haha. I've tried waxing & threading (got acne back for the first time in 20 years and couldn't get rid of it). I've got a lumea but my tache and beard were blond with the odd straggly black one so no good. The JML gold things is top notch because you can whizz over your face in a minute.

pascalstriangle · 08/11/2019 14:44

@EpcotForever I am living proof that it does cause spots. Horrible, sore spots that hurt when you touch them or laugh and won't be covered by make up :-( And if you have sensitive skin, banging thick creams on the spots to help them makes the problem worse.

flissity · 08/11/2019 14:45

This is my routine now. Removing hair gives me spots.

I bleach with Jolen and then trim ultra short with sharp nail scissors. You can’t see them at all

thatwasMauijustmessingaround · 08/11/2019 14:46

I've shaved, plucked, epilated, waxed and dyed it over the last 15 years.

Shaving is most convenient tbh. I hate letting it grow any longer to do anything else.

Buddyelf · 08/11/2019 14:47

I get mine waxed - the first time it was red for a couple of hours but now it barely goes red at all. It’s cheap and done in seconds.

aweedropofsancerre · 08/11/2019 14:48

I usually get a reaction if I use hair removal creams. I get my chin, upper lip and eyebrows threaded. There isn’t any redness after wards and it’s super quick.

zonkin · 08/11/2019 14:51

I used to get it waxed at a salon but now I wax it at home myself as it's loads cheaper and saves time. I just buy a pot of hot wax from a beauty salon supplies shop. It's microwavable and the pot lasts for ages. I also do my nasal hair myself too.

Have never dared to wax my eyebrows myself tho. Get those done when I get my legs waxed.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/11/2019 15:04

I bought one of those springy things it's brilliant!

ForeverFaff · 09/11/2019 07:48

I have also tried every single method. Even two solid years of zapping it religiously with an electrolysis pen.

I really wish I'd have just shaved the bloody thing off the first time someone commented on it (was bullied about it) but for some reason was convinced it was somehow 'wrong' for a girl to shave her face.
It's the best, quickest, cheapest, most effective way.
