I want to get rid of my top lip hair

My plan us to remove it with Veet and then se Phillips Lumea to weaken its growth. Will I regret it? I'm paranoid it'll grow back stronger...

I just pluck it when I'm doing my eyebrows, keep on top of it each day as doing my make up. Cheap and easy

UncleHerbie · 03/11/2019 10:57

Threading for me. Full face for a tenner and my lady dies an awesome job

BusterGonad · 03/11/2019 11:01

Veet burns my skin and turns the hair frizzy, but doesn't remove it, bleach gives me a huge yellow/orange moustache which looks hideous, waxing is good but you have to grow your moustache for it to work, my favourite option is a battery operated shaver, I use a Veet one which I bought abroad and I love it, no pain, no hassle and it doesn't grow back thicker, if that were true wouldn't all balding men shave their heads and then grow back a glorious mane? I use my mini shaver on my eyebrows to to neaten up the bit leading up to the hair line. I love it.

GinZinger · 03/11/2019 11:05

Oh no! Oh my god, I can't contemplate waxing and having a red top lip for work...

Then schedule an appointment on the way home from work or on a weekend Confused

Ariela · 03/11/2019 11:08

Best thing I ever did with my dark lip hair was go to a salon and laser it off. Took about 3 treatments, & now go back once every 3 or 4 years for any stray ones that pop out.

The fortune I spend on Veet etc,on electrolysis on a cheap home laser that was useless etc I should have spent in the salon.

GoodGriefSunshine · 03/11/2019 12:49

People say 'don't wax, it causes spots, thread instead'. Waxing, threading and plucking all involve pulling out from roots. They are essentially the same thing.

Nonstopbuttmachine · 03/11/2019 13:33

I wax my tache with the little strips, stings like a bastard but lasts 3-4 months. I have to clean the tache area with tea tree oil before and after otherwise I get impetigo Envy

misscockerspaniel · 03/11/2019 13:40

What you do or use depends on whether you have fair or dark hair. Lumea doesn't work on fair hair but will be fine for darker growth.

TR888 · 03/11/2019 13:43

Those of you who shave, doesn't the hair grow back thicker?

OP posts:
OrangeHue · 03/11/2019 13:51

I’ve been shaving since I was 21 and use Philips lumea. I have no hair left on my upper lip, and I had a very unfortunate obvious dark moustache.

My sister was also dubious but has been doing it for 6 months and it’s the best thing she’s ever done/bought. Don’t use nair/veet. It burns and can lead to a swollen lip, threading is bloody painful.

Do it you won’t regret it.

carolina21 · 03/11/2019 14:08

Threading very painful I think

Ladyratterley · 03/11/2019 14:13

Lumea! I echo previous posters.
I shave then Lumea my top lip. There was nothing there after a couple of treatments. It’s brilliant.

GookledyGobb · 03/11/2019 14:13

There is a difference between shaving with a razor you’d use on your legs and a razor specifically designed for your face like PCS Eyebrow Razor Shaper Cheek Facial Hair Remover Peach Fuzz Shaver Women's Trimmer Shaving Grooming Kit [[https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07PRRCJ17/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_SaUVDb2481S9?tag=mumsnetforu03-211]]

No it doesn’t grow back thicker. It’s easy, quick and if you do your entire face you find your makeup goes on much better too as you get rid of all the fuzz

TR888 · 03/11/2019 14:20

What's the difference? Isn't microblading another form of shaving?

OP posts:
LER83 · 03/11/2019 14:22

Those who use Philip's lumea, which one do you have? Contemplating buying one but don't know if the cheaper ones would be any good? I've got very dark facial hair and currently wax&pluck with tweezers.

Bilngismything · 03/11/2019 14:24

Bleach is the way forward.

ForeverFaff · 03/11/2019 14:33

Shave it off. It DOES NOT grow back thicker, what happens is that the hair continues growing from underneath, and therefore doesn't start off with a fine tapered tip that a new hair has.
Also, the blunt end of a shaved hair is easy to grab with a tweezer if it's not of your thicker ones Grin
Why women are told to go to a professional aesthetition for £££ when a bloody cheapo razor will fix it in under 3 seconds.
I shave about every 3-4 days maybe?

ForeverFaff · 03/11/2019 14:34

If it is one if the thicker ones, I pluck them.

Time40 · 03/11/2019 14:36

Those of you who shave, doesn't the hair grow back thicker?

No, that's a myth. If you think about it, how could that possibly be true? The growing hair can't sense what you've done with the already grown (and therefore dead) bit. People think this because the end of a shaved hair is blunt, but the end of an unshaved hair is tapered, so it just looks as if it's thicker.

Just shave it, OP. As someone said upthread, it takes three seconds. Why faff about with long-winded methods that cost money, when there's an easy and instant way?

ForeverFaff · 03/11/2019 14:38

And why aren't bald men all shaving the ever-loving-Jeff out of their heads if it makes hair grow in thicker!?

gamerchick · 03/11/2019 14:44

Just shave it. Takes seconds and doesn't grow back thicker. So many money spinners praying on the vanity of woman.

Ruddy pansies, what a palaver over nothing Grin

theSnuffster · 03/11/2019 14:46

I pluck mine but can only manage a couple at a time because it hurts. I can't use wax strips or any sort of removal creams or bleaches, they all irritate my extremely sensitive skin.

Blackbird1234 · 03/11/2019 22:20

OP, I have the Philips Lumea and was also worried about shaving my moustache before using it but it’s honestly not been an issue at all. The hair does grow back a little bit in between treatments (not forever though and it’s not thicker) but you’re free to shave in between treatments so it’s very easy to keep it all under control. I’ve done about 3 Lumea treatments on it and it’s really making a big difference and would recommend it to anyone!

goingtotown · 03/11/2019 22:30

JML finishing touch is amazing. A quick painless wipe over top lip & chin & it’s job done. Wish I discovered this years ago.

EarringsandLipstick · 03/11/2019 22:34

I vote electrolysis. I did it about once every 6 weeks for years, yes a bit painful but effective. And then, suddenly hairs stopped growing there. Definitely a pleasant side-effect of hormonal changes in my 40s! (One is the few...🙇🏻‍♀️)

Can't get over the amount of people saying to shave ... do you not get stubbly regrowth?

And NO to bleach. Anyone who's ever done this, it looks soo obvious and unnatural. Hair still there but a weird non-colour.
