I want to get rid of my top lip hair

My plan us to remove it with Veet and then se Phillips Lumea to weaken its growth. Will I regret it? I'm paranoid it'll grow back stronger...

Threading is amazing for this, the best thing I ever found.

capsule · 03/11/2019 09:32

Threading works really well.

TheNinkiestNonk · 03/11/2019 09:32

Don't shave it, don't veet or bleach it. Wax or laser hair removal (with a proper qualified aesthectian, not at home).

Crede · 03/11/2019 09:34

I shave then use a lumea for my facial hair. And use vaniqa cream to help slow regrowth. The joys of pcos!

GardenWoes231 · 03/11/2019 09:36

Shaving makes it sound scary but you need a dermaplaning razor. I had been using one for over a year and now combining it with my Lumea I barely have to do anything!
The dermaplaning razors are easier than any other option even if you aren’t using Lumea - I’ve tried all the other options! Takes about 5 seconds and you can do it every morning if necessary.

IfWishesWereFishes · 03/11/2019 09:37

Don't Veet. Shave then Lumea. It works amazing well!

IfWishesWereFishes · 03/11/2019 09:38

The Lumea instructions tell you to shave first.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 03/11/2019 09:41

I just shave mine in the shower every day. I've tried nair before but think my skin is too sensitive for it.

Please don't bleach it. I've got a couple of friends who do this and when the sun hits it at the right angle they have bright yellow moustaches.

ProseccoIsTheAnswerHere · 03/11/2019 09:46

I have spent years using the veet wax strips for this. Might be red for an hour or so much nothing I can’t deal with or hide.

SpangledBoots · 03/11/2019 09:47

Phillips Lumea has worked for me in just two treatments - I'd highly recommend!

ilovetofu · 03/11/2019 09:50

Wax at home before bed.
Put an ice cube on it then clean up wax with olive oil/ cotton wool.
Go to bed. Redness will be gone in the morning 🤷‍♀️

Spiaggispeciale · 03/11/2019 09:51

I have the same thing as Snowman123
Was really sceptical at first but its absolutely amazing.
No pain, no redness and takes seconds.

WeeDangerousSpike · 03/11/2019 09:52

I sometimes wax mine myself using those little strips. Works fine, does go red, but I just do it in an evening and it's gone by morning.

I bought one of those facial shaver things (from jml maybe?) that looks like a pen and has a round shaving head. I just whizz over it if I notice any hairs. Works fine and takes seconds.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 03/11/2019 09:52

The Lumea needs a bit of hair above the skin to work on, hence the advice to shave rather than hair removal cream (or wax or thread) as you need 'stubble'.

Also it's less effective on fair hair because the light needs to work on the pigment.

Gemma2019 · 03/11/2019 09:59

You can Veet then Lumea but you can't do it the same day. You need to leave it a few days afterwards so there is a tiny bit of regrowth. I have done this twice now and there is barely any regrowth anymore.

Mickhasnotorso · 03/11/2019 10:01

Just shave it off. Literally 0 side effects. When it "GrOWs BaCk THiCKeR" (which it won't) just shave it off again.

Source: been shaving off my moustache for many years.

ThePawtriarchy · 03/11/2019 10:03

Also agree with the JML thing - revelation.

WindFlower92 · 03/11/2019 10:06

Surely just shave it as it's cheaper and literally takes three seconds?

MonChatEstMagnifique · 03/11/2019 10:13

I've got a Philips precision facial trimmer. It takes seconds and leaves you really smooth. I probably do it once or twice a week just to keep really smooth but as it takes seconds it could be done more often if you wanted. I think I got it from Boots or Argos for about £20.

My skin is really sensitive and ends up red for ages if I use anything else.

nearlynermal · 03/11/2019 10:15

Wax strips from boots. If it's heavy, laser is a life changer. It looks expensive but it pays for itself over time.

Daisy7654 · 03/11/2019 10:18

I've been shaving it off for years. Also if you're careful you can use a dry razor (mens type) to microblade all fine hair /fluff from face. I do it. It's rejuvenating and cheap and quite quick. I'm 48

Teaandcrisps · 03/11/2019 10:21

Tweerman facial hair remover - same as threading and literally takes 5mins every few days

Swisskit · 03/11/2019 10:45

If you use veet I don't think the lumea will work, I think you need to shave or just use it on the grown hairs.

I use body waxing strips. Cut them into smaller strips, apply a bit of heat with a hairdryer or put on the radiator for a minute. Then wax off all the hair. Takes less than 2 minutes and costs approximately 5p.

hobbler · 03/11/2019 10:49

You need one of these:

www.amazon.co.uk/GadgetpoolUK-Remover-Threader-Removal-Epilator/dp/B01JLVDDF2/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=hair+removal+wand+coil&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1572778072&sr=8-3

I’m pale with dark thick hair and it’s all I use now, veet was strips leave me red and sensitive. This twiddly thing leaves me red for a few minutes but that’s it. Quite therapeutic to use as well and so easy.

MartyrGuacamole · 03/11/2019 10:52

I use wax strips at home about once every 3/4 weeks. Takes seconds. Make sure to wash, gently exfoliate and wipe with toner first, then pat dry. Use wax strip then use the little wipes to remove excess and a dab of coconut oil. I do it at night before bed, no redness by morning and no spots. Quick and easy. Very tempted by a lumea and keeping my eyes open on Black Friday!
