I've just accidentally watched the last ever episode of the Big bang (probably spoilers)

Didn't realise it was last in series until we clicked on it then as we watched it became clear it was going to be the last ever.
What a lovely ending. And it did need to end.

I got bored at season 4 - is it worth watching to the end?

I'm currently binge-watching Will and Grace, good god Megan Mulally is fantastic!

It's feel good. If you like the series you'll like the ending. If it bores you, so will the ending :)

Definite spoiler...

The ending of BBT really annoyed me. Penny had decided not to have children then suddenly accidentally pregnancy and that became her happy ending. What a cliche

StealthPolarBear · 02/11/2019 23:01

Yes true. At least they didn't make her have a change of heart
A happy accident was a nice way to do it.

I was v annoyed because they had her announce that she didn’t want kids but not why. Then Leonard plays the gent for not moaning about it, whereas in a normal relationship they’d have discussed it a bit.

BrieAndChilli · 02/11/2019 23:04

See I think her accidentally get pregnant was awful - it’s basically saying that women who don’t want children will change their mind if they get pregnant. It makes out that all women secretly want to have kids no matter what they say. It would have been better for her to change her mind as a decision so that she was still in control of the decision to have or not have kids

StealthPolarBear · 03/11/2019 06:42

Good points.
I'd assumed they had discussed it.

I hated what they did to Penny too, and I also think there is a big problem with the way the writers treated the character of Raj. He always seemed like a bit of a joke rather than a real character like the others who needed to have a happy ending. They could never move beyond making constant jokes about him being Indian.

KipperTheFrog · 03/11/2019 06:48

I assumed they had discussed it, and the option of abortion open then decided to keep it. That all just wasnt shown on screen. She certainly appears happy and settled in her plan to keep the baby. Bernadette also didnt want children initially, then has 2, which didnt appear planned.

KipperTheFrog · 03/11/2019 06:51

I also hate how they left Raj, no happy ending for him. The arranged marriage storyline could have been perfect in the final series. Instead of setting him up with someone incompatible then having him try to force it and she leave anyway. Why couldn't they have set him up and have him at least engaged if not married at the end? Unless they're planning a reboot or something in the future which is Raj's wedding.

StealthPolarBear · 03/11/2019 06:56

Yes I really liked anu and I thought the story was really good in that it was an arranged marriage that they then decided wasn't for them but realised they liked each other anyway. I don't understand why she wasn't kept in until the end on the. Understanding they were happy but taking it slowly.

Another one annoyed at the Penny storyline....although that did happen to me. I never wanted children, accidentally fell pregnant and was delighted and terrified and now have a great DS....most of the time

I have a love/hate (mostly hate) relationship with the big bang theory. The men in it are all total soft serve misogynists and most of it makes my skin crawl and yet I've somehow shame-watched every episode.

Sheldon is outright emotionally abusive towards Amy, Howard was basically a burgeoning sex offender played for laughs until they inexplicably shacked him up with Bernadette at which point he went from sex pest to just lazy and inept husband stereotype, Raj is incapable of treating women as individuals but rather just things to be attained and Leonard is probably the least awful of the bunch and he still basically relentlessly guilted and manipulated Penny into a relationship, then a marriage that she wasn't totally keen on then eventually a baby that she was initially adamant that she didn't want.

Sheldon and Amy's relationship is particularly horrible. She's clearly suffering from low self esteem and craving affection and validation and he humiliates her constantly and it's played for laughs. We're supposed to buy it as sweet when he has occasional grudging flashes of insight and stops being a total fucking monster for what is usually one short scene every few episodes. And her friends constantly enable this shit. Instead of sticking up for her, nobody calls it out, nobody says (except as a punchline), 'why are you with this guy who treats you as though you're subhuman?'

There's also this overarching joke which essentially boils down to that she's not conventionally attractive and was bullied as a child and is therefore now pathetically grateful for any scraps of affection that are thrown her way, however inadequate and that's not a punchline, it's heartbreaking and it's never addressed in any meaningful way. It's horrible.

But WHY did Sarah Michelle Gellar go to the Nobel award show? Clearly she was going to Sweden for another commitment yet she went to the award ceremony with Raj? WTF.
Did I miss something there?!ConfusedGrin
