  1. Having an oven that holds temperature stops cakes falling
  2. A stand mixer simplifies baking by a factor of at least 4, and improves the results
  3. Branded vacuum cleaners actually remove dirt from the floor
  4. Le Creuset pans don't stick, and just wipe clean
  5. Baking with children is delightful japes, when timed the morning before the cleaner comes
  6. Corn fed chicken is the bomb

Just leaving a note to my past self - who never cut herself any slack and thought she was a slattern and a crap cook.

Now feeling smug that I was a good baker before and after my kitchenaid purchase Grin

Have just bought Le Creuset pans too... I'll start writing my book Wine

Nacreous Ipswich is 2 hour drive from London. DH’s commute to work would be 2 hrs 15- 40 mins door to door depending on the train. Any problem with the trains he might miss an operation. Totally impractical.

pinksparkleunicorns · 02/11/2019 17:53

Well I like your thread OP. Sounds like we have the same sense of humour (although I don't have the same cash flow from the sound of it 🤣)

You absolutely should live in a house you can afford in an area you can afford. It's called living within your means and more people should try it instead of whining that they can't buy a central London property on their £30k salary, because well, that's where they choose to work so there.

Who ever expects to live in central London on 30k? Or 80k even.

So should NQ teachers, police, nursery staff etc all leave London?

Happymum12345 · 02/11/2019 18:06

My kitchen aid changed my life too. My cheap hand mixers would break after a month or two-I baked a lot! Also, my oven is now a decent brand & it made all the difference from my Ikea one. However, my cheap dishwasher is far better than my top of the range one.

Courtney555 · 02/11/2019 18:07

Who ever expects to live in central London on 30k? Or 80k even.

Slightly contradicting yourself there when you then attempt...

So should NQ teachers, police, nursery staff etc all leave London?

Well that's the *only" option isn't it. Oh, no, hang on, they could move half an hour away to somewhere they can afford.

Laughable. Literally.

IfWishesWereFishes · 02/11/2019 18:07

It's all about making good choices Angry

Actually, it fucking isn't, and now I think you're straying right back into smug goady fucker territory. Anyone who really lived on the breadline at one point would have greater empathy than you.

Astressie · 02/11/2019 18:10

Le Creusot pans are too heavy & do stick!

B9ddy · 02/11/2019 18:10

A bad craftsman always blames their tools and a good cook can make an excellent meal from nothing
This post is ridiculous
You fo not need expensive equipment or elite food to make a meal 😂

morningdread · 02/11/2019 18:18

Unsure how I'm contradicting myself.

An inner London NQ teacher earns 30k so where should they buy half an hour away?

RoyEastmannKodak · 02/11/2019 18:23

I can imagine those things but can’t imagine them happening to me despite being an educated person working hard at a full time job, with a partner doing the same, rich just ain’t happening over here but I genuinely agree that life must be so much easier with everything you have mentioned and it’s nice to hear that you appreciate it

morningdread · 02/11/2019 18:25

Anyone who really lived on the breadline at one point would have greater empathy than you.

You'd think, but then someone who can't acknowledge it is statistically harder for younger people to achieve home ownership, btl's portfolios, etc & that they just need to work harder is not exactly the sharpest tool in the box!

Courtney555 · 02/11/2019 18:28

*It's all about making good choices

Actually, it fucking isn't*

Well done for deliberately misquoting. I mean, bravo for the non point.

Choices to some extent, and more importantly, compromises and sacrifices (instead of excuses why you can't, when actually it's more you just don't want too) because the early sacrifices and looking at the bigger picture is what then gives a longer term life benefit.

Try that again.

And trying to insist I can't possibly have been on the breadline is an all too familiar cry. It's the usual stance taken by those in identical positions to the one I was in, who want to maintain the excuses that there's nothing they can do about it. Because in 99% of cases they are excuses. Do I think excuses deserve empathy? Absofuckinglutely not. Did I sit there feeling hard done by and get pissy at anyone not sympathetic to my situation? Or did I do something about it? And will I call out such behaviour when I know it's certainly something you can change? Why, yes.

Courtney555 · 02/11/2019 18:36

It's so obviously not about just working harder. I truly can't use any simpler words, so we'll have to just agree that you can't understand, if your interpretation is "young people just need to work harder."

saltandvinegararethebest · 02/11/2019 18:42

@TheAutumnHereApologies if I missed this, but could you say more about your web development career and how you made money. Am interested and looking for career advice!

manicmij · 02/11/2019 18:57

Snugglysnerd have you tried biological washing powder to remove stains ext from your pans. If near or on the bottom put about an inch of water with a teacupful of bio powder then simmer about 15 mins. Leave over night if possible then washout. Hopefully stain/residue is removed. Sure you know Le Creuset should not be scrubbed.

morningdread · 02/11/2019 19:23

@Courtney555 I searched your history as I thought you were a troll. Your road to "riches" appears to be having children with wealthy partners so I'm not sure how that translates to making sacrifices & seeing the bigger picture but I guess you could say it was a choice. Go you!

For someone who struggled with not smoking whilst pregnant (addictions are tough) you're incredibly judgemental of others who are fallible.

IfNot · 02/11/2019 19:34

I cba to read the whole thread but I actually agree with you OP. I'm a good cook (used to do it for work) and I can knock out a pretty good meal in 30 mins (although i dont particularly enjoy it)I never bake. My oven is shit, my kitchen is tiny and inconvenient, I have no dishwasher, I have cheap baking tins. It's just stressful and never turns out well.
If I had a huge, well equipped kitchen and a cleaner my cooking would be awesome.
If and when I ever become rich I will be whipping up lemon drizzles from here til Tuesday.

Courtney555 · 02/11/2019 19:54

Ah, here cometh the twattery because I am living proof that people are self pitying and make excuses as opposed to change their lives and make sacrifices instead of being entitled.

My "rich" husband qualified me as an accountant I imagine Grin

Pathetic little woman that you are searching people trying to dig for non existent dirt. Says everything about you Hun Flowers

Courtney555 · 02/11/2019 20:00

Takes self off to chain smoke under Le Creuset adorned troll bridge...Grin

morningdread · 02/11/2019 20:03

Ooh you use the hun word!

My "rich" husband qualified me as an accountant I imagine

I thought you gave that up for lap dancing?
In 2018 you were supporting a boyfriend, were you also marred then?
Maybe your just a fantasist! Are you beanie baby?

Pathetic little woman that you are searching people trying to dig for non existent dirt

I genuinely thought you were a troll because it's not normal that someone who achieves well despite their background is so disparaging of others.

morningdread · 02/11/2019 20:05

🤣🤣

morningdread · 02/11/2019 20:09

Says everything about you Hun

Au contraire reading your other posts tells me everything about you. You are so nasty and judgmental about others. I hope you find some happiness hun 😘

Courtney555 · 02/11/2019 20:17

Ah you can't read what you've been trying to find a hole in either. Figures. Let me help you Hun. I'm qualified. And have been a lap dancer. And a glamour model. And hold a financial degree in addition to my professional qualification. I've lived in a council house and I've lived with a billionaire. Because some people have dull lives in comparison and can't comprehend mine? Well that's not my circus and I pity them for being so illread.

Try digging through my threads again. Slowwwwly. And, you can have a boyfriend in 2018 and be married in 2019. It's like witchcraft Grin

I don't achieve despite my background. I don't use my background as an excuse to pretend I can't achieve. And people that pretend they can't do anything about it? Like I said, 1% genuinely can't. And again to link to OP, acting like you need to be "rich" to access a pretty minimal level of quality to enrich your life, is nonsense. It's accessible on an absolute budget.

RiddleyW · 02/11/2019 20:20

I’m surprised someone with a financial degree would be shite with money.
