Any private dentists around?

Over the past year I have paid to have dental CT scans privately at my dentist. He is recommending some treatment that I would really love a second opinion on as the cost is frightening! If I have paid for the CT scans, am I allowed them to show another dentist rather than have to pay again for a CT scan?

You should be able to, because regulations controlling x-ray exposures to patients require the use of existing radiographs where available instead of taking new images and exposing you to more radiation.

I don't know how it would work in practice though.

Your new dentist can request the images on your behalf, or you can request them as patients are entitled to access their medical records.

Thank you. I had not thought about the radiation aspect. I suppose all I can do is ask. I think the dentist might be annoyed with me for getting a second opinion. I might try and see if there is anything on their website regarding ownership of my records before I go in and ask as this is a private practice.
