Hosting a new mum friend today, along with her DS whom DD really likes. Both kids are 3, and each of us has a younger baby too.

House has piles of laundry, crap at bottom of stairs etc. Would you tidy? What do you expect on a play date?

My house is always tidy, but i would run the hoover round to make sure no cat fluff stuck to the carpet, though i can guarantee within 5 minutes of the hoover going away there would be more fluff [eye roll]

Yes. Why wouldn't you? I'd carry up the laundry at least. I would give it a quick one two, the night before. How long does it take to do a quick wizz round to make it semi respectable? That's what I do.

A 20 minute wizz round makes a big difference. Surely you can do that?

I just don’t really do clutter in that everything has a home so it’s easy to quickly tidy stuff away / more effort to leave it lying around than put it where it belongs.

I like having a tidy home so yes, I do tidy before play dates etc if it’s needed.

When stuff is no longer being used, it gets sold, charity shopped or passed on. And I’m ruthless & unsentimental about stuff that comes home from school - I only keep it if it’s very good / special / has particular significance, otherwise it goes straight in the bin.

I’m also very lucky to have cleaners and a large-ish house so I can have a room which is strictly no guests and that room is less tidy than the rest of the house.

However, I can honestly say I never notice or care what anyone else’s house is like (except one really dirty house). I would only notice if it was noticeably different from usual eg a normally tidy friend’s house not looking like normal - to keep an extra eye & see if I could do anything to help.
