Where to watch RWC in Dubai

We're here on holiday, so pretty central, any recommendations for a child friendly place to watch the final and also have a reasonable priced beer?

Barasti at the Mina Sayahi Meridian is the most popular beach /sports bar. Not sure that any bar in Dubai is particularly child friendly though as under 21s aren't normally allowed in

SunshineInMySprocket · 31/10/2019 14:15

I would avoid Barasti personally, RWC or otherwise. McGettigans is a good choice.

SunshineInMySprocket · 31/10/2019 14:19

And children can go into any bar/restaurant during the day. No problem at all.

FluffyEarMuffs · 31/10/2019 14:24

I'd find out if Reform or one of the many many golf clubs are closest to you. They are much more family friendly.

Your hotel might be showing it too though?

Don't try and take a child to barasti 😁

FluffyEarMuffs · 31/10/2019 14:25

PS there's no such thing as reasonably priced beer in Dubai. Sadly.

Puppylucky · 31/10/2019 14:31

Kids can go into restaurants but not designated bars (not just bar areas within the main hotel) unless they are also eating. Agree that a golf club may be a better bet. Not sure there's much to choose between Barasti and McGettigans TBH but at least the view is better in Barasti!

FluffyEarMuffs · 31/10/2019 14:36

I lived there. I never once took my children to barasti or mcgettigans.

I never saw any other children there either to be honest over several years, so even if they are technically allowed in some areas in there (and I doubt it, unless they count it as a special event?) neither is suitable.

TheCanyon · 31/10/2019 14:37

McGettigans would be my choice too but it's pretty smokey in there so maybe not child friendly.

JudithCharmless · 31/10/2019 15:34

Ok, I can amuse the kids instead thinking Kidzania in Dubai Mall. Any sports bars near there? I have googled but really not sure on distances etc in Dubai! Appreciate all help so far.

@JudithCharmless which hotel are you in?

Tbh, you'll probably find somewhere in your actual hotel that will be showing it, and that would be way better than traipsing out anywhere if the children aren't going to watch it anyway.

There are no licensed places in Dubai mall itself, plus it's huge so a pain to easily get in and out of and all the way up to kidzania. The nearest bars to Dubai mall would be the hotels attached to it, or over the bridge to Souk Al Bahar, but they are more posh, really expensive restaurants than bars.

SunshineInMySprocket · 31/10/2019 17:24

The bar in The Address at Dubai Mall might be showing it. I’m sure I saw something about a screening on the beach at JBR which might be good but not licensed. I’m just home from work so let me have a quick look.

Bidis on the Palm has an outdoor non-smoking family area for watching the RWC

JudithCharmless · 31/10/2019 18:37

We're at Lapita, which is a metro ride into town.

www.timeoutdubai.com has a feature on where to watch the Rugby World Cup. For Kid friendly though, I'd suggest Reform Social at The Lakes Club.

ForalltheSaints · 31/10/2019 19:40

Remember not to book a holiday when the 2023 Rugby World Cup is on!

SunshineInMySprocket · 01/11/2019 00:56

If you’re at the Lapita, try The Irish Village in Riverland. They are bound to be showing it.

JudithCharmless · 01/11/2019 06:27

@SunshineInMySprocket

We did, but they've not got the internet link sorted Shock

I would second Bidi Bondi on the Palm though the new owners have made it a bit more partyish than it was before and it was jammed busy last weekend. They do an offer of 5 drinks or 4 drinks and a meal for 155dhs. Get there early to get a table as the queues last weekend were massive.
