How often do you brush your teeth?

Inspired by another thread, and nc'd because I suspect I will be called a filth monger.

I usually only brush mine in the morning Blush If I've eaten fish I'll brush after that and chew gum, or if I've eaten something particularly oniony during the day then I will brush at night, but other than that, I just leave it to the morning time. I sometimes use mouthwash and occasionally floss or use a water flosser.

I go for my checkup and clean once a year and the dentist always says how healthy my teeth are. It baffles DH because he brushes at least twice a day and his teeth are not as strong as mine (though I know genetics plays a huge role in this).

I just don't see the point in brushing at night, though I suspect some of you will now enlighten me and tell me that all my teeth will fall out imminently because of my slovenly ways. Who knows, you may even convert me!

Am I the only one?

(sorry if I've made anyone feel ill)

2 - 3 times a day sometimes four but my gums ache when I do it more. Check up twice a year, thinking I might benefit from descaling inbetween now.

Quirrelsotherface · 30/10/2019 22:00

Twice. Sugar is in so many foods and accumulates over the day. I'd feel really scummy if I didn't brush my teeth before bed, sorry op.

Stroller15 · 30/10/2019 22:02

Twice. I can't fall asleep if I haven't brushed my teeth. But I do eat a lot of sweets!

Ew. At least twice a day. You need to clear away all the micro food bits that accumulate from eating, to reduce bacterial growth. While your teeth may be healthy now, if you carry on, you will end up with tooth decay, receding gums and tooth loss. And your poor DH having to kiss someone who doesn't brush before bedtime. 🤢

plantainchips · 30/10/2019 22:08

ummm Confused

GeneHuntLover · 30/10/2019 22:08

Twice, too much brushing can also cause problems

dementedpixie · 30/10/2019 22:09

Twice a day. It's advised to do it before bed as you produce less saliva while asleep and that's when plaque can calcify on your teeth

ClownsandCowboys · 30/10/2019 22:09

Once a day, in the morning. I occasionally have periods when I brush at night, but it only lasts a few days usually.

NoSauce · 30/10/2019 22:11

Twice sometimes more if I’m going out for the night. I can’t sleep if I don’t floss and brush at night.

IsolaPribby · 30/10/2019 22:11

After breakfast and last thing at night. I love going to bed with that tingly clean feeling in my mouth. And evening is when I am more likely to have time to floss etc.

SaidThePinkToothbrush · 30/10/2019 22:11

Tbf about kissing DH, he generally doesn't brush his teeth til the very last minute before sleep, so I kiss him when he hasn't brushed his either iyswim.

Point taken about the sugar buildup though.

It's weird cos I insist that the kids brush morning and night, but then don't follow the same advice myself Hmm

🤮
Night time is by far the most important time to clean your teeth. The sugars and starches you consume during the day will wreak havoc left uncleaned.
You're very lucky to have got away with it for this long.

Ginfordinner · 30/10/2019 22:13

Twice a day. Not brushing at night is skanky.

NewNameGuy · 30/10/2019 22:16

Once ish but I know I'm a bit minging tbh :)

Once a day. If really pissed sometimes I forget all together. Thankfully that's rare.

However- my dad brushes three times a week- and at 74 has all of his own teeth and but one filling. I'm 40 with no fillings, a six monthly check up and without an idea of what toothache is . There's a lot to be said of family history, biology, gum health etc that I think has huge impact- dh brushes twice and flosses and has awful teeth- fillings and extractions - regularly needs scaling etc.

HobbyIsCodeForDogging · 30/10/2019 22:18

🤢
Morning and night as a minimum. Usually an additional brush when I come home from work before heading out again.

megletthesecond · 30/10/2019 22:19

Twice a day. And floss every evening without fail. Somehow I even used to do this, drunk at 2am, after a night out in my youth.

firstimemamma · 30/10/2019 22:19

Brush (30 secs per quadrant of mouth) every morning and evening. Floss every evening. Mouthwash after midday meal (obviously only if I've eaten at home!). Dentist every 6 months. It just wouldn't feel right to skip the evening brush!

lavalamp08 · 30/10/2019 22:21

Once a day for me too, in the morning, I'll join the slovenly train with you OP Grin

Shetlandponyranger · 30/10/2019 22:21

2-3 times a day. Totally disgusting to brush less than twice a day. The thought of people neglecting that simple hygiene standard makes my feel nauseous.

64sNewName · 30/10/2019 22:24

Three times a day normally.

I don’t floss much though (or rather, use interdental brushes as my dentist suggests), even though I know there are significant implications to that :/

Apparently your risk of cardiovascular disease is lower if you floss. Can’t remember why.

nutellalove · 30/10/2019 22:25

At least twice. Normally 3 times before going out in the evening etc. floss once a day at night. Can't sleep without brushing teeth either.

MysweetAudrina · 30/10/2019 22:25

Always in the morning and sometimes before bed. Scale and polish and check up once or twice a year. I filling.
