Working away from home - hotel packing

Next year I will be doing a course through work where I shall be stopping in a hotel Monday to Friday for about ten weeks.

I shall be travelling by train, so only want to take a small case. What are your must haves to make life easier? I shall be taking laptop, phone and kindle and probably some decent coffee. Any other suggestions welcomed.

I cannot believe the amount of stuff people take reading this! I used to travel every week pre kids. Totally agree with pp saying have your toiletries & daily makeup pre packed and ready, anything large like nice shampoo, moisturisers decant into little bottles.

Daily make up I never bought dupes as too expensive - but I do have a separate small make up case with the bare minimum in ie primer, foundation, blusher/brush, eyelash curlers and mascara. Anything used out of this on non travel days gets lobbed straight back in. If I know I’m having a night out, I’ll add in eyeshadow eyeliner etc but I don’t cart it around every week. In the summer I add bronzer.

When I travelled a lot, I used to do the gym and steam room/swim etc so took my kit.

I liked lounge wear ie pjs that didn’t look too much like pjs for evenings that you could get away with wondering to the bar in. Plan your outfits so the same work shoes go - multiple shoes is what ruins your packing plans! Dresses pack smaller than a load of jeans and t shirts. A pashmina/shawl/scarf that doubles as a cardi replacement or travel blanket is wonderful. Wear your biggest shoes or boots that you want to have with you there to avoid having to pack. Make sure your coat and handbag goes with everything too.

Bottle opener and stopper, or find a nice screw top wine and buy in a supermarket to drink in your room. Hotel WiFi is generally poor so download in advance is good advice, although it’s fine for general surfing like mumsnet.

Enjoy yourself and if you can get out and about to explore the area, fresh air is nice.
