Urgent gift help needed!

Criteria:-

60 year old male
Labourer as a trade
Grandpa (not mine or my kids!)
Never reads
Likes one particular spirit but I've the feeling everyone will buy that
Works all the frigging time so activity gifts a no no
Budget up to 30quid
Need to be able to go to a store and purchase as needed by Friday (live in a city so easy to access lots of stores)

I can't think. Do I go fun/gimmick e.g. the loaf of bread slippers I've seen online? Do I try and buy something more thoughtful (but we won't see each other all the time so no clue what would be thoughtful).

Any suggestions?

Coffee shop/ Greggs/Tesco voucher. I'm sure he has drinks or lunch while he's working

Outedsochanged · 29/10/2019 19:34

Screwfix vouchers, decent thick socks. Steel toe cap boots don't warm up well!

DisplayPurposesOnly · 29/10/2019 19:53

Warm and waterproof hat like this:

(Similar available in Go Outdoors etc.)

Does he like going to the cinema if he gets any down time? Could you get him a voucher for his local cinemaplex?
Is there a particular barber that is a bit of a treat (i.e. does hot towel shaves and other types of treatments) - you could get him a voucher for there maybe?
Maybe some technology - a good set of headphones - www.argos.co.uk/product/7097470

CornishCreation · 30/10/2019 10:02

Jumper
Dressing gown
Binoculars
Bird table
Garden ornament

TheDuchessofDukeStreet · 30/10/2019 10:25

A Stanley flask.

georgialondon · 30/10/2019 10:37

Never novel. I'd just get the spirit you know he likes

georgialondon · 30/10/2019 10:37

*novelty

4forkssake · 30/10/2019 11:04

Fleece/Jumper
Pjs
Travel mug

Nottobesoldseparately · 30/10/2019 11:27

A crystal tumbler to drink his spirit from and some whiskey stones.

They are literally stones you put in the freezer and use instead of ice, so they don't dilute your drink.

Besidesthepoint · 30/10/2019 11:28

Scarf and mittens

Thank you so much for these suggestions! I'm off to the shops today with this list. Liking the warm hat and gloves idea and the thermal mug.

My dad is the same and he likes thermal vests, hats, socks, gloves and jodhpurs. Flask or chilly's bottle. He quite likes gadgets- maybe an echo dot? Or some decent food. How about a cheese or sausage subscription or one of those legs of ham from Aldi Lidl etc

DonPablo · 31/10/2019 07:53

Makita lunch bag

parrotfashionista · 31/10/2019 08:56

A simple Swiss Army knife - super useful

SuchAToDo · 31/10/2019 09:01

I would buy him gift vouchers for somewhere like subway, /McDonald's/burger king/ coffee shop etc so if he fancies a quick bite or coffee when working he can pop in and get it....it's more useful as a gift and something he more likely to get use from than a novelty gift that will get put in back of a cupboard or in a charity shop by January

CaraConcerned · 31/10/2019 09:04

Thick padded "work" shirts... Primark used to do them so I expect better places would too!
