Mirena Coil

Had this fitted 7 months ago. Bled on and off until last month. No period. Thought I’d cracked it. However, this month started spotting and light bleeding for the last 9 days. Today the bleeding is more than it has been. Is this normal.

Yes it is, they can take ages to settle down, im on my third

I had constant spotting for about 3 months , 7 months sounds a bit extreme. I seem to go through phases of no period and regular period with the coil.
Interested @Nyctophyllia if when you swap the coil for a new one whether you get the original symptoms back.

I’m having full on bleeding, with spotting and pathetic attempts to have a period sort of constantly over the pas5 few weeks. It’s driving me nuts. It’s been in for almost 5 years but as it went in at 45, I an apparently just keep it. Does anyone know if the strings can be shortened? My dh is experiencing issues.

I didnt get the same symptoms when I got it changed, tiny bit of bleeding but negligible, also you can get the strings shortened but it may be they just need to settle a bit

MadameFoner · 30/10/2019 01:15

@cherrysoup your dh shouldn't be feeling the strings 5 yrs on? They soften and tend to curl back. I also would have thought your bleeding would have stopped by now. Might be worth having a check to see it's still in the right place and hasn't moved.

Nurse at my smear yesterday described them as marmite. If you’re having problems get it checked.

I am also on my third Mirena, I had a bit more spotting with this one, but it has settled down now. Personally I like the Mirena, can’t say the fittings a breeze, but once in place it’s lovely not having periods.

I had mine fitted at the start of August and have bled since then. Now on the pill too to try and make the bleeding stop. Being referred to gynae if it doesn't settle as I have previous issues and will probably need an ablation.
