The pioneer Woman, a question for regular watchers?

Watch The Pioneer Woman, it’s is one of my family’s half term pleasures.

Is the Lodge separate from the house? If yes, what is the purpose of The Lodge if they have a (presumably) big house too?

Also, what’s a ‘home school day’?

Oh wow that is an enormous ranch and hard to comprehend especially if you’re from the UK.

Forgot about her merch shop, I do like how it’s been so sympathetically restored. Never realised you could go and stay at the lodge either, does Ree cook for guests 😀

I don't think they home school because of religious beliefs. She grew up Episcopalian (like Church of England) and they are now Presbyterians (like Church of Scotland; I'm guessing Ladd is of Scots descent "Drummond"), both are mainstream denominations in the US. The home schoolers who do it for religious reasons tend to be from more conservative or fundamentalist denominations.

I love Ree!

I tried to buy some twee shit from the Merc but the postage was horrific.

Yes I always got the impression that the homeschooling was more because of logistics of the school run and distance etc.

Yes. The Lodge may be only half an hour ftom town but I expect their home (ranch house) is a longer journey.

I used to religiously read her blog! But never seen her TV, but she's posted about why she homeschools before and it's basicallt because of the distance.

Has anyone tried her recipes?

Yes, just one. It’s “The Pie That’ll Make You Cry.” It’s a pecan pie recipe. A co-worker made it for a work function a few years ago and I’m telling you, it is one of the very best desserts I’ve ever had. I’m not a fan of pecan pie and would generally pass it by in favor of other desserts, but I couldn’t get enough of this.

I make the Cinnamon Buns from her blog and first book every year for Christmas morning. Her Crash-Hot Potatoes are fabulous too. Like many American recipes, there's a lot of unnecessary sugar in them, so that generally needs to be adjusted for my family's taste...

Apparently the ranch/land they own is over 675 square miles. That's huge!
