How often do you wash base layers?

I've finally invested in some Uniqulo base layers so I don't freeze in Dec and Jan. I spend my weekdays either in an office or working from home, so not technically outside. However, I do tend to feel the cold.

I obviously don't have 7 base layers for each day of the week, so could I get away with not washing them after each use? Are they meant to be washed after every use.. I mean would they wear out sooner if I wash too often?

Thanks!

If I’m wearing something against my skin on my top half then it gets washed after one use.

How often would you wash your bra? Do you wear deoderant? Let that be the guide. Before pregnancy turned me into a sweaty beast I would only need to wash my bras every 2-3 wears in winter as I don’t tend to sweat a lot; and the base layers were fine too.

Sniff them

Aren't they made if that sportswear material which wicks sweat away from the body to stop it making you cold? If so they get stinky quicker than any other type of clothing and need washing approximately every 2-3 hours...

My teens wear them for sport... Possibly they won't get stinky as fast sitting at a desk Grin

Still - one day wear, but they dry fast so you can wash even late at night and they'll be dry in the morning.

Surely nobody only does laundry once per week - admittedly my memories of only having my own washing are hazy but I'm sure I did at least 2 loads per week even when it was just me!

When smelly

Sniff them Grin

Better yet, ask your colleagues to sniff them?

My DH wears unique base layers in the winter, they are washed after every wear!

Thanks all!

SparklFairy Grin let me try that!

Anothernotherone you're right, they do wick away the sweat and are slightly smelly after today's wear.

Looks like all I had to do was wait till the end of the day and I would've had my answer Blush

Thanks Mumsnet!
