Active on Instagram. On an iPhone. What does it mean

Is it you have the page open or running in the background?

Do you have to swipe the page shut to be inactive ?

You would need to have the app open

It means you're actively using the app.

Are you checking up on someone?

So if I double click and move to say .. mumsnet. And Instagram still lurking then I’m inactive?

I don't know if they're entirely accurate to be fair. I've been in a supermarket with a friend and she's showed as active and hadn't used it for 30 mins or so

Yeah it’s no accurate. It once said my brother was active but he was right next to me and he wasn’t using insta

None of these 'status' things can ever really be relied on. Are you checking up or being checked on?!

Don't know about Instagram but my dh has shown as being active on Faceache and Messenger when he's been asleep on the sofa beside me. I have also shown as active on Faceache to him when I was clearly not on it, these things are not very accurate.

It doesn't mean the person is actually on the app, just that they're connected to WiFi. My daughter's phone is next to me now and she's upstairs... Instagram is telling me she's active.
