Help with condolence message

Just had text from the wife of DH's best friend (and mum of DH's goddaughter) to say her dad died unexpectedly the other day. Climbed a ladder, lost consciousness and fell. She says they're all in shock but they're taking comfort from it happening quickly as he always said he wanted to go quickly.
DH and I met him 10 years ago at their wedding... neither of us really remember him Blush
Have started a message. DH says to write "Our condolences. Hope you all recover well from the shock" Hmm
I think that sounds awful but can't come up with anything beyond "I'm so sorry to hear that" which also sounds daft.

I spend my life writing these...

"Oh no, I am so sorry, what a shock. Sending love, and thinking of you. Xxx"

‘We’re so sorry to hear that. Thinking of you at this difficult time’ ...?

OkayGoooouuuuuullllll · 27/10/2019 19:42

Yeah I'm not a fan of your DH's suggestion. Maybe just 'thinking of you at this difficult time' ?

" oh my goodness, what a terrible shock for you all. I am so very sorry. If there is anything we can do to help then please do tell us. We're thinking of you with love. Xx"

So sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. We'll be thinking of you during this tough time. Sincere condolences, headbrickwall

Are you physically close enough to take them some food? We have had sad news as a family recently and I appreciated a ready made lasagne very much as it was one meal I didn’t need to think about at this time! It was more helpful than everyone offering to help

HeadBrickWall · 27/10/2019 19:49

No, we're too far away to visit or do anything practical

We cannot begin to imagine the enormity of your loss. A life well lived, a man loved by so many. With sincere condolences and deepest sympathy.
