Fibromyalgia/mattress toppers

Can anyone help? I need something to help me sleep and not be in pain all night. I have pain in my hips, shoulders and lower back.
I have done lots of research on line and am now confused! I don’t want feathers (because of cruelty), have been looking at gel memory foam ( I get hot at night) or wool.
I have a wool duvet and love it, but I don’t know if a wool topper would relieve pain.
If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

Hi sympathies, I have fibromyalgia too, and I'd probably go with latex.
I use a latex mattress with a cotton filled duvet in top under the sheet.

Watching with interest. I always wake up in agony, and I have a simba mattress. I'd change it to a really decent one but can't afford to at the moment.

My pain is also lumbar and hips - horrible isn't it?

Another fibromite here too. I have found sleeping on a couple of thick fleece blankets helpful. As yet I havent found anything else that has worked quite as well including memory foam toppers - memory foam just made me hotter than usual which I couldn't cope with. The fleece blankets dont make things perfect but I couldn't manage without them now. I also find 'cooling' the painful areas sometimes more useful than warming them so I have deep freeze gel and gel 'pillows' in my fibro tackling kit to use as and when required.
Hope you find something that suits your needs soon Bananas x

The sun - do you mean a latex topper?

Toothless- yep, it’s the pits!

I have a teddy bear memory foam mattress topper from Dunelm. It helps with the fibromyalgia pain. I even take it with me if I go and stay anywhere.

Yes a latex topper, I would have bought one for my old mattress but I was lucky to buy a good 2nd hand latex mattress from a friend.

I did some research and latex seemed to come up as less hot.
I just know wool would end up flattening or itching with me.
The cool top ones could be ok, like you I'd hate anything feathers.

I have a memory foam one. I don't find it really helps. My hips are still screaming and I can't lie for more than five minutes on one side. Fibro sucks.

Bananasandchocolatecustard · 27/10/2019 17:28

Potter- Sorry to hear that. Fibromyalgia is bloody awful.

My memory foam mattress was the best thing I ever got to help comfort wise with my fibromyalgia. We replaced it not long ago for another one, and I wouldn't get anything different.

TheFairyCaravan · 28/10/2019 21:09

I've got fibromyalgia, severe, ongoing SPD, arthritis in my hips spine and pelvis and we've just replaced our mattress with this Hovag from Ikea in medium firm. I've slept better for the past fortnight than I have for years.

We've had a memory foam mattress but I found that awful because it moulds to you so you get stiff, then I couldn't initiate a turn. My spinal surgeon said he didn't recommend memory foam. We bought an orthopaedic mattress and tried a feather topper, that was great for a bit. Then we got a memory foam topper because the mattress was so firm but it was still too uncomfortable. The best thing was changing the mattress.

Update- I bought a gel memory foam mattress topper. Trying it for the first time tonight.

How did it go Bananas?

Bananasandchocolatecustard · 30/10/2019 22:14

It was a great improvement. I bought a gel memory foam mattress topper, it’s about 3” thick.
I woke up during the night, but not as much as usual. The best part was being able to sleep on my side again.

Brilliant, I'm pleased it's working for you 😁

ToothlessIsMySpiritAnimal · 31/10/2019 21:38

Fantastic! Can you link to the one you bought please? I feel a treat coming on for me 😂

Bananasandchocolatecustard · 01/11/2019 20:44

Not good at links , it’s the Panda gel memory foam mattress topper, from Amazon. It has a removable cover made from bamboo, non slip “dots” on the underneath and hands Togo over the corners of the mattress. I can now sleep on my side.

I was going to go for the panda gel bamboo is it breathable & not to hot Iv same problems
